Coffee Table Sparkle

Lately, I've been trying to add a bit more sparkle to my house. I don't know if it's because it's Winter and a lot of days are dark and dreary, or just because I'm starting to like sparkly things. :)

I fell in love with this mirrored box from Home Goods. It has a frosted design on it that looks like tree branches...or maybe a sea fan.

What ever the design...to me, it has a coastal feel that I love. Of course, I always have sea shells somewhere in my house, and even though it's the dead of Winter, I'm dreaming of the coast.

As you see, I'm still playing with my glass paperweights. I only have three...but that's a collection, right? One is hiding behind the tulips.

I added a little more sparkle with a mirrored photo frame.

Hope y'all have a sparkling weekend and stay warm. Spring is on the way...I promise.

Hugs,
Babs

Spring in a Box

I ran to Walmart yesterday to get some Gorilla glue for Hubby, and I stopped in the garden center to see if they had any pansies.
Well, no pansies, but I saw these darling Tete-a-Tete daffodils, and couldn't resist their cuteness.

They are in tiny individual pots, and I bought 5 of them.

I lined the pots in a vintage wooden box, and added some moss from the yard for a quick box full of Spring.

On the hutch shelf above, I added an old Arthur Court tray with bunnies.

A bird's nest always says "Spring", too.

Can you see? This little daffodil has three blooms on one stem.

Quick as a bunny, my hutch looks like Spring.

When the daffodils finish blooming, I want to plant them in the yard. Hopefully, they'll come back next year.
Have any of y'all tried planting them after they've been in a pot?  I'd love to know if you had luck with them.

Hugs and have a great weekend,
Babs

Antiquing and Lunch

Hi Everyone,
Hope y'all are having a great weekend. In my last post, I promised  I'd show you where we had lunch the day we went antiquing.
The little sandwich shop was recommended by the antique mall owner, and she assured us the food would be "home made" and good.

We sat at a table next to a couple from NJ, who had been antiquing at the same mall. We started talking, and I was stuffing my mouth with a huge pimento cheese sandwich...sorry no photo...it was delicious. :) Hubby had a bowl of chili.

Checking out the decor...here are a few pics of "found objects" on the wall...

...a framed vintage pillow cover with roses and Air Force insignia...

...an old radio, fireplace shovel, photos of family members and local residents...

...some of the table styles were very eclectic...notice the three layers of table covers on this one...not sure what that pink ribbon is for on the chair...

...a gnarled walking stick, and a flag sign used to hold teacups...

...and a high chair for the little ones.

For the "big ones" a big banana split...and a chocolate dipped strawberry. Hubby and I shared the banana split. Yum!

Well, after the sandwich, a big glass of iced tea, and the banana split, I was almost rolling out the door.
.
As we left, I noticed a sign painted on an old saw above the door,  which said..."Y'all come back now, ya hear!"

I really like eating at local "mom and pop" places. The decor may have been a little unusual, but the food was awesome. Just good ol'  soups, salads, sandwiches and ice cream.

We'll go back there again. I hear their chicken salad is "the best".

Hugs,
Babs

Pink Pigs and Glass Frogs

Hubby and I spent Valentine's Day flea-tiquing and lunching in a small town near us. I hadn't been there in several months, even though I usually find something each time I go.  The antique mall isn't one that has French country grain sacks, or investment quality antiques...(not that I could afford that anyway). But, it does have lots of fun retro things to browse, and the prices are very reasonable. :)
Just for fun, I thought I'd show you a few things I didn't get. Want to go shopping?

How about some pink pigs?...

...or a large portrait of someone's 3rd great grandmother...

...a toy salad set in it's original box?

...glass flower frogs? I saw lots of these...

...a vintage toiletry set...Hmmm...

...shelves of vintage Hull and McCoy pottery...

...vintage bar ware...

...a large secretary full of china...

...and a basket of old casters.

See anything you like? Yes? No?
How about some lunch? I could use a sandwich right about now, and the owner of the antique shop recommended a little place just down the road.
I'll show you that on my next post...but what did I buy at the antique mall?
You probably guessed...

...yep... another glass paperweight.  What is is about clear glass paperweights with bubbles that I like? I have no idea.

I had hoped to work in the yard tomorrow, doing some pruning and cleaning up. But, there's a slight chance of snow in the early morning, so I'll probably just sit around in my jammies and watch a gardening program on tv. Do y'all have any special plans for the weekend?

Hugs,
Babs

Controlled Bubbles

Recently, I started collecting controlled bubbles glass paperweights.
I really love them, and because I'm such a control freak...

...I'm controlling the bubbles even more!
I put one of the paperweights on a silver tray, in a dish and under a cloche.
Wow! Total Control!

The bubbles and the turquoise color of the dish are so soothing to me...when I'm out of control...

...see, there are even little "bubbles" in this turquoise dish.

The stem on the glass looks like it has a bubble in the middle...but it doesn't.

I also controlled a couple of fishing floats in the glass dish and the turquoise stem ware...well, they kinda look like bubbles.

Even the handle on the cloche reminds me of a bubble...I know, it sounds like I've had a glass or two of the bubbly. :)

Now that I have all my bubbles under control...more or less...
...let's go visit Marty for her cloche party on Table Top Tuesday.

Hugs and see you there~

Just a Little...

Hey, y'all!
Are you ready for Valentine's Day
I'm always running around like a crazy woman, when it comes to holidays, but here's a little treat which is really easy to make.

I used the smallest heart from my set of cookie cutters...

...made a pan of brownies, let cool completely, and cut out little hearts...

...filled demitasse or espresso cups with ...

...Amaretto Cherry Cordial ice cream...YUM! ...

...topped the cups with whipped cream and decorated with the brownie heart and a maraschino cherry.

Just a little Valentine's Day treat, and sooo easy.

 Enjoy!

Hugs, Babs

Tool Caddy Two Ways

What is it about tool caddies? I keep buying them! Here's one I got last week, and started playing with today...I put together two different looks, but since I couldn't decide which to show you...I'm showing you both.

This one is on the hutch. I know you saw my Bordallo hen just a few days ago, but...she's still hanging around, and hasn't made it back to the storage closet yet.

She also has a little friend peeking around the corner of the caddy. He's checking out the cabbage plates, and wondering if it's going to be chicken and cabbage for supper. The yellow plate is another gift from my friend Priscilla.

Here's the same caddy, but in the family room, holding books, a plant, and...

...a little Staffordshire style figure.

There...one caddy, two looks.
Do you have a thing for tool caddies too?

I'm really glad you stopped by.
Let's head over to join these great parties.

Favorite Containers

Hi, Everyone. I'm joining Alison@ The Polohouse for Favorites on the First. The theme, this month, is favorite containers.

Here are some of my favorites:

Baskets ~

...for holding May flowers...

...or for storage.

Bowls ~

...blue and white English ones...

...for pudding...

...or a silver Revere style for a snack.

Vases ~

...a turquoise vintage one...

...a little majolica pitcher to hold Lenten roses...

...and a large glass container that can be used as a vase to hold flowers, or as a hurricane for a candle.

What are your favorites?

Please join in the fun at Alison's, and have a great Super Bowl weekend.
Hugs,
Babs
