Sunny Sunday

Hi, everyone!
I'm so glad to see y'all. Remember the other day when I bought daffodils? Well, I also bought an African Violet...don't ask me why, because African Violets are another plant which I don't have much luck with.

Quick...let me show it to you before it "croaks".

It's sitting in the sunny window in the office with my Christmas cactus and a peace lily.  Hope it likes it there.

While the African Violet was basking in the sun, I decided to make a strawberry cobbler.
Publix had a big sale on strawberries, so I loaded up.

I used that recipe where you mix one cup of self rising flour, one cup of sugar, one cup of milk and a stick of melted butter and pour it all over the fruit...you know the one?
Updated info: For those who aren't familiar with this recipe, here's the original one using canned peaches. I sometimes substitute fresh or frozen fruit, and enough juice or water to make the equivalent of the canned peaches.

I can't believe my mint is still green, even though we've had cold temps.
Yum....wish I had some vanilla ice cream to put on this cobbler.

Hope y'all are having a great Sunday. Come on over, we have plenty of cobbler. I'll even go to the store and get some ice cream for ya. :)
Hugs,
Babs

I'm headed over to The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sundays. See you there.

Hi Babs! I have the death curse with African violets, too! Someone said not to give them a lot of sun, I've never tried that though. Good luck, it's so pretty.

Do you bake the apple cobbler? It looks delish!

XO,
Jane

I don't know that recipe but it sounds good! My sister calls those "dump cakes"!
I did some reading on African Violets. It says if you water from the top try not to wet the leaves and never leave water standing on the leaves. Also they light bright light but not direct sunlight.
Good luck with the African Violets. I used to grow them but they'd do good for a while and then seem to die off. I probably over watered them!

I adore African violets but have had no luck with them - we are building an addition on our house and I am hoping the window exposure will work in there! They are so pretty! Hope you can stop by the enchanted oven.

Lisa

You and I both have to be very very afraid of killing some of those otherwise sturdy plants. ;-) It is wonderful having cats again since they are my excuse to not have table plants.

I've got ice cream. Save me a bowl of that cobbler!
It was perfect here again today, so my Sunday was spent in the garden. The cobbler will be a perfect ending.

I made peach cobbler this weekend. LOL Your strawberry cobbler looks fantastic!

I love African Violets but they don't do so well in our home.

It sounds like an easy recipe Babs. I will have to try it with strawberries. I like African violets. I have a pot with 3 pretty good sized ones it.

Pretty African violets!!! I inadvertently murder mine, too. I just don't know what it is about flowering plants!!! I had never heard of the recipe you put here, although it sounds a lot like kind of a sweet biscuit dough. I like easy when I'm crunched for time, and this would work nicely. We had beautiful, monster-sized strawberries on sale at one of our local groceries, too, for just $1.28. I bought 2 packages. I think I'll give this a try with one of them!

Babs,
Like you, dear friend, I have no luck with English Ivy or African Violets!!! I agree with Liz, the water must be able to drain off in your container!!! Lowe's use to carry a great planter for the violets...bright light...but NOT direct sunlight!!! One of my co~workers grew them well...just passing on her words of wisdom...Good Luck!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Love your pretty flowers, Babs. I adore African Violets and do have pretty good luck with them. I find that most houseplants do pretty well in an East-facing window, North is good as long as it's really bright. But I actually have mine in a South-facing window which is making the violet happy enough to be bursting with blooms. The position of the sun right now is such that this window gets tons of light, but not the burning rays. I may have to move it when our weather gets hot. As long as I'm sharing so much "expertise" ha, ha, I think the biggest mistake that's made with houseplants is too much water. I always use my water meter before I add water -- sticking my finger in the dirt just isn't good enough and messes up my manicure.....lol!

I've made that recipe many times, but never with strawberries. We aren't eating carbs right now, but some day.....yum yum!

Hi Babs, I can hear my father now, .... "Mildred, will you fix me something sweet to eat". Now this would be about 8 o'clock at night. Mom would go in the kitchen and fix that exact same recipe you made, with a can of peaches. It's a great quick and easy dessert. Mom has always and still does have African violets in the kitchen window. Me!...nah! like you, I always kill the poor things. :) I hope you will paint a rug on your deck. I still just absolutely love mine. Hope you are having a great week. xo

Filtered sunlight - not direct. Move it quick! I water mine once a week from the top avoiding the leaves. Always use a pot that drains and do not let the pot sit in any water that drains longer than 15 minutes. Pour it off. I usually water my plants on the weekend so that I can remember.Good luck with your violet. They are really pretty in the dreary cold winter!

Good luck with the violet. My grandmother grew the most beautiful ones on her window sill.

My grandmother had African Violets on this little shelf in front of her big window. It was like a stair-step shelf and the pots were all different colors. I had forgotten all about that. Thank you for the nice memory! Your cobbler looks divine and so easy. Thank you for sharing...hope you are well. We're getting a snowstorm right now. Ugh!

I don't have any luck with African Violets! They remind me of my grandmother who had them all over her house happily blooming away. Your cobbler looks delicious! We're getting a Publix here next year, so looking forward to it!
