As March approaches and I'm making plans for St. Patrick's Day, I think of so many Americans with Irish roots.
One of those who came in the 1800s, as a young girl, was my husband's grandmother, Mary Jane.
I never met her and we have very few photos of her, but I always think of her as a courageous young girl with a dream for a better life here in America.
She is shown here, later in life, with her husband Charles.
Wishing everyone a very Happy St. Patrick's Day!

How wonderful to have such a courageous lady in your family's history, Babs! I am also of Irish descent! Happy Saint Paddy's Day to you, too!...hugs...Debbie
Hi Babs! Oh, I agree with Debbie! I have a little spot of the Irish in me too! What a thrill and a bit scary to leave your home and country and come to another place sight unseen! But seems she did well.
I'm popping over from Debbie's blog and want to wish you a warm welcome to Blogland! I'm going to be your second follower and I hope you'll visit me too.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Welcome to blogland! I got to be your third follower--came through Debbie.
Your picture is a treasure. I can't imagine leaving all that is familiar and going to a new country. The story makes St. Patrick's Day more than a cleaver holiday. Have you read B.J.Hoff's Emerald Ballad series? They are set in Ireland during the potato famine and helped me see the reasons why so many came to our country.
glad to meet you and read your new blog!
love your post, just adore the old pics and hearing about the lifes of people in them.
Welcome to blogging, Babs! Enjoy old photos...the clothing is usually interesting.
Babs, I am so glad you started a blog. Yay! Now I can see your home. Have a great weekend.

Hi Babs: I'm a little Irish & Scottish so I have a soft spot for them. Welcome to blogland and I look forward to your future posts. If you like kitties I have lots to show you. Found you through Debbie's blog. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x5 Ottawa, Canada
Babs, you are certainly off to a great start in my book. I love, love, love family history and genealogy. Most of all, I love a story accompanied by an old photo. As far as I know there isn't a drop of Irish blood in me but I'll be making colcannon for our church covered dish St. Patrick's Day week.
Welcome to blogland!
