Plus, you don't see them that much any more.
In the old days, every home had at least one, usually in the bedroom.
Can you guess what I found at the antique mall?
The lady at the antique mall thought the monogram might be a military insignia or from a hospital. I don't have a clue...how about you?
The handle is very simple and sturdy. Have you guessed what it is?
Yep! A chamber pot!
Now, what do you put in a chamber pot...for display purposes!!!
After I bought it, I wasn't sure how to display it, or what to fill it with. I guess the pine cones will work until I can think of something else.
It's getting close to Halloween, and I usually don't decorate much. Our grands live out of state, and we rarely get any trick or treaters...
...but, just on the outside chance...maybe I should get a little candy...just in case.
Well now, there's another use for the pot. Gosh...those Kit Kats look yummy.
Orange ones? I'll try just one...munch...munch...
Crunch, crunch...yummy, yummy. Wanna try one?
Trick or Treat!!
Happy Halloween!!
Hee Hee Hee!

Babs,
ReplyDeleteYour chamber pot has been elevated to table top decor...awesome!!! What a charming candy dish, dear! Kit Kats are one of my f a v O r i t e candy bars. . .so if there are a few less by morning you'll know I flew by for a spell!
Fondly,

Great post! I have seen the monogran before on a old mug.Don't know what it means,IRS... lol neat pot.JoAnn
ReplyDeleteI started laughing on your first image...Both my grandmothers had them, real fancy ones too...gosh wonder where they went. I love the little chamber pot cabinets they stored them in, the ones that held your wash basins and water jugs, with the built in towel rods. Family heirlooms for sure. Loved all the images you presented and thank you for sharing more memories. I have joined your followers list and invite you to join my followers list; as well,I hope you will grab a blog button. Very pretty Bab's and I like how you filled it with pine cones, although the candy looks pretty good in there too:) Happy Halloween
ReplyDeleteI love the monogram on your pot. I have just a solid white one. We bought it in the mountains at some antique store probably thirty years ago. I love your filled with candy. I bet that kit kat was good.
ReplyDeleteMy mother in law has a bunch of fancy ones, I fancy your simple white one!
ReplyDelete♥Linsey
That's so funny that you put your candy in the chamber pot. Today's kids wouldn't have a clue what it was.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and I love pine cones in the fall. You look ready for Halloween! Thanks for swinging by to say hello!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
I knew what that was only because my mother in-law used to have one. It's a wonderful looking pot except I always laugh when I think what that generation (that used to use those) would think of us using them as decorative objects! Ha! I like the marking on the front too.
ReplyDeleteHa! Very cute! But every time my 90 year old mom and I go antiquing, she points them out and tells me how they had those on the farm when she was very small, used in the winter, at night. Then she laughs about people using them for decor. Gotta love her!
ReplyDeleteHi there, Babs! I knew what it was at first glance. I had a nanny who was an older woman (born in the late 1800s) who had one in her home. Never understood WHY since she had indoor plumbing, but she did! Funny how items of pure necessity in days gone by are now items of pure joy for different reasons! :-) Have a happy, happy Halloween, Babs!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Babs!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I love the chamber pot filled with chocolate your my kind of gal! :)
I have one here not an antique that was made back in the eighties remember that trend with the pitcher and basin pottery?
I keep mine unfilled in the basement! :)
Have a wonderful day,
Rosemary...x
You know that Prince Charles collects them and antique stools as well. I have a bunch of then and use them like you are doing. part of our heritage. Richard from My Old Historic House.
ReplyDeleteI remember that my grandmother had a chamber pot. My husband and I were out antiquing today and we saw one. He really didn't know what it was used for until I explained it!
ReplyDeleteI bet none of the kids would know what you are serving them candy from...Ha!
ReplyDeleteI guessed it immediately because my mom has several antique ones in her house. None are monogrammed, of course.
ReplyDeleteI giggled at the thought of Halloween candy in one. That's kinda funny if you think about it.
I once did a unit for my class where the introductory day involved groups trying to name some of my mom's old stuff. THAT one stumped them. Suffice it to say that it got the big Ewwwwwwwww when I told them.
I LOVE yours, especially with the pinecones.
Babs, your chamber pot is beautiful. I have one in our master bath that I keep different soaps in.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween!
I think it's a great find! Are you sure it's not just a replica, if it was used for the chamber, I sure hope you boiled it...lol
ReplyDeleteNice Post!
Sandy
Chamber pots are now elevated to elegant porcelain flower pots and candy, lol! My sil has one from my hubby's grandmother with pink flowers, I mean, they should "went" on style in those days, ha! I love your great finds dear Babs. Thanks for your lovely visit sweet lady and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
I like your chamber pot and it does make an interesting and unique floral container. It has such a nice monogram!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking your unique post to Potpourri Friday!
Loved this post. I am soooo glad you found just the right use for the chamber pot. I just love Kit Kats. Hope you have some left when I drop by. Hugs, Ginger
ReplyDeleteI think chamber pots are under rated. They are great for decorating. Glad you got the candy you like. I like kit kats too.
ReplyDeleteDanielle
Love your "new" chamber pot, particularly the monogram and I think your ideas for filling it are good ones! Those orange Kit Kats--be still my heart!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Susan
Most people wouldn't know what it was! But I love the insignia! Makes it very grand indeed! Enjoy your weekend...save me some candy! ♥
ReplyDeleteI have seen quite a few chamber pots, aka thunder jugs, in antique stores lately. They also make great planters! That is a really neat monogram on your new candy dish.
ReplyDeleteBabs, what a neat piece of history!! Brings back memories of things seen at grandma's house! LOL! Now, to be using it as a candy bowl...genius!! Who would've thought it, back in the day?! LOL!!!!
ReplyDeleteA very unique piece and love how you are using the pot. I love Halloween, but will be glad when the candy is gone, gone, gone!!!!
ReplyDeleteLike a lot of the other commenters, my grandmother had them. She lived on a working farm and had no indoor plumbing. Going to visit her as a child, I thought playing with the outdoor pump was so much fun. I love your chamber pot. Have never seen a monogrammed one.:)
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness, I am just laughting and laughing here at the candy in the pot! You are so cute. It really is beautiful. Can't imagine living through winter without indoor bathrooms! I feel soooo blessed!
ReplyDeleteYour post made me smile..since I'm a nurse and thought someday in the future will someone find an old bedpan and use it for something completely different! ? LOL...I think the chamber pots were much more attractive as proven in your post!
ReplyDeleteChamber pots remind me of my grandmother's house. I can't help but wonder what happened to hers and your find makes me wish I had one.
ReplyDeleteHi Babs, Yes I guessed right, your chamber pot. I like the monogram. I've seen them displayed in guest rooms on a little stool next to the bed. That might be a place to start looking for a home for it after Halloween.
ReplyDeleteGreat fun post. Love the lantern and little pumpkin. A perfect way to receive your trick or treat guest.

ReplyDeleteI knew what the "container" was as soon as I saw it!:-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't buy candy, this year. We are trick or treating at our daughter's this evening...all the g'kids will be there...it's a beautiful Halloween day in MO.
