Sunday Night Supper

Fall is in the air, and it feels like time for homemade vegetable soup.
Here's the table I set for our supper tonight...

...just the two of us.

These little soup bowls came from World Market. Love the pumpkin color.

We also had biscuits and fig preserves.
Now Ginger, you know that these biscuits are NOT  homemade...
...they are frozen ones from the grocery store; but, I did  make the fig preserves.

Yum!

I cut some branches, from the hawthorne tree in the yard, for a simple arrangement.

For fun, instead of candles in the lantern, I used these little pumpkins I found at the grocery store.
They're called We-Be-Little.

Isn't this the cutest squirrel? The acorns hold the salt and pepper.
I got him a couple of years ago at Cracker Barrel.

We're headed out on the deck to watch the sun set.

The pumpkins and candles are lit on the coffee table on the deck.
Y'all come on over for a hot cup of coffee. There's a little chill in the air, so you might want to bring a sweater.
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your visits.

  1. The soup looks delicious, I love the bowls and I want one of those Hawthorne trees! Those branches with the berries are beautiful. Do the berries stay on very long? I also noticed your knives. I have been looking for flatware with colored handles but haven't found any I really love. Yours are lovely. Have a really good week!

  10. Yum home made vegetable soup. Great soup bowls and such a pretty setting. Love the lantern and the hawthorne branches. It was rather chilly this weekend, but I am glad it feels more like fall. Where did summer go? Swoosh, it was gone.

  11. What a lovely post! I feel as if I came over for dinner and then sat outside with you. I love your table setting! It's just gorgeous. Your husband must've been so impressed with it too. I like the soup bowls and the plaid napkins. The squirrel salt & pepper shakers are just adorable. I love a touch of whimsy on the table. BTW, I don't make homemade biscuits either. The frozen Pillsbury ones are the best anyway.

  13. The soup looks delicious. I'm heading out shortly to get the ingredients to fix some for dinner tonight, but my table won't look anything like your beautiful setting. (We'll probably just eat in front of the tv.) I love all your special touches, esp those bowls.

  14. Perfect intimate fall evening setting, Babs! The soup looks delish and actually makes me want soup!!! Thick and hearty...the way soup is supposed to be! Who cares if the biscuits aren't homemade? Although you are a Southern woman. I though all Southern women made biscuits from scratch! :-) When we were planning to move to Georgia, I immediately began practicing making scratch biscuits (rather than of the Bisquick variety) and grits. As it turns out, I didn't need to practice to compete, but my skills with both have improved! I will admit to liking those canned refrigerated biscuits with half a jar of apple butter on them. Mmmmmm, good! Beautiful table setting, wonderful food, and great fall atmosphere! Enjoy your day!

  19. Babs- Your table is set so pretty! Love that lantern filled with the little punkins. You made your own fig preserves? Amazing.... I used to make strawberry jelly, but that was in the olden days. LOL I love figs and can only imagine what your preserves must taste like! yummm....
Wish I had some decorative branches to clip- I guess I'll have to wander the neighborhood and ask to borrow some from someone's yard.

  20. This is SO homey and warm looking to me. I loved the soup bowls and agree with you about the color. I also loved the way you used the leaf plates.

I need to set some fall tables. I have yet to do so, now that I think about it.

  23. Oh, Babs I am on my way. I am sorry I'm late, I hope there's a little soup left. Love the leaf undeplate withthe pumpkin color soup. Looks just like a little pumpkin patch. Don't you love Cracker Barrel. They have the neatest things and their prices are fair. The little acorns are so cute. I don't have acorns around my place and I think they are so cute. Seeds with little hats. I amreally jealous of your acorns.
I am trying to figure out the outside pumpkins. Did I miss them from another post? I want to see more of them they look so neat.
The biscuits look great. Nothing like letting someone else do the work. I bet the fig preserves is great. I love figs any way and preserves is the best.
Have a great week. Hugs, Ginger
