I was looking to see what I might use for a Thanksgiving tablescape and pulled out my favorite serving piece...the turkey platter.
It's by Johnson Brothers, and the pattern is Historic America. The platter design is called Home for Thanksgiving and depicts a farm scene with guests arriving.
I never noticed before and had to laugh. All of you up North who just had snow-covered pumpkins, will see that the farm family had the same surprise.
The platter is quite large, and has so much detail...
...if you look closely, you can see a child ice skating...
...someone is doing chores in the barn...
...cows are headed to the barn, and chickens and birds are finding a meal at the feeding trough...
...a team of oxen is pulling a sled with logs.
You can see their breath in the cold air...
...and the turkey is still strutting around the barn yard.
Hmmm. I wonder when Thanksgiving dinner is going to be served?
...surely the guests must be staying for several days.
Thanks for letting me share my favorite Thanksgiving turkey platter.
Do you have a favorite dish with a turkey or Thanksgiving scene on it?
I'd love to see your turkeys.
Strut your stuff. :)

Hi Babs, I am back from my travels and now busily trying to catch up with all my favourite bloggers. you all seem to have been very productive while I was away so loads for me to read. What a lovely welcome back to your blog this post about your platter has been.
ReplyDeleteHi Babs,
ReplyDeleteI really LOVE your turkey platter! Yours is the third post (including mine) that I've seen this week with Johnson Brothers dishes. I really love Johnson Brothers. That is a wonderful platter; it reminds me a little of a Currier & Ives scene. It looks especially nice the way you have it arranged with the pine cones, magnolia leaves, and goldenrod.
I don't have a turkey platter (it's on my wish list), but I did just receive some of "His Majesty" dishes, again by Johnson Brothers. :) I'll do a tablescape with those in a few weeks.
Thanks for visiting my blog and taking time to leave a comment. I'm your newest follower; don't know if I'll show up on your follower section. Mine are going in and out right now. I'd love you to be a follower on my blog, if you're interested. We have an older house, too (1972). I love it (mostly), but it presents its own set of decorating challenges. Happy Seasonal Sunday!
