Vintage Postcards

REMINDER: Linky Party January 1st, 2012

Alison @The Polohouse is having a linky party on January 1st,
and since the topic is "Collections", I was looking around the house for something to use for a party post.

Unfortunately, I tend to accumulate odds and ends, rather than  collecting beautiful or interesting objects.
But, I do have a collection of antique and vintage postcards that I "inherited" from my mother and grandmother, and one or two cards I found at an antique mall.

Let me show you a few Christmas and New Year's cards.

This one has a 1930 post mark and is addressed to my mother.

I bought this card at an antique mall. The sheep, and castle in the distance, makes me think of Ireland...

...it was sent to the wrong town.  I wonder if Mrs. McDougall ever got it?

New Year's cards are a good idea. I never seem to get all my Christmas cards sent on time.

Love the little roof tops on the houses.

This one was sent in an envelope to my parents the year they were married...1939.
Such a formal message from a dear friend. :)

I hope you enjoyed these vintage post cards. There are lots of them in the shoe box, so you may see more of them before the party.
See you at Alison's on January 1st
and Patti and Paula @ Ivy and Elephants for What's Up Wednesday.

Hope you had a great Christmas.
Babs

Babs,
Really enjoyed seeing your collection of vintage postcards, dear friend! I, too, look for seasonal postcards when we are at antique malls and flea markets. They are getting harder to find, lately. How precious that these belonged to your Mother!
Fondly,
Pat

It's so great that you have those old beautiful cards! I have some old postcards that I bought at an antique store years ago and I love seeing the old handwriting on them and the dates. It definitely captures how different times were back then. It's even better that you have some that belonged to your own family!

Hi Babs, I saw your comment about your blog header on I Gotta Create, and if I can help you by making a header, just let me know. I change mine frequently using Picnik and Banner Fans. Oh, and for free, too!

Oh they are lovely! I gave up on Cmas cards a few years ago. I remember my mom writing cards for hours night after night! Now you get one with computer labels and not a word written on it.
Things change!
Does dust count as a collection? :)

I think that is a wonderful collection. They are each so exquisite & detailed. They are beautiful.

Thanks, Babs, for taking a peek at my "studio." It is truly wonderful to have that space. My "grands" absolutely love spending time doing things in there -- so much fun!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, & I wish you a very Happy New Year!

What a great collection sweet Babs, I so love vintage post cards, I don't have any, though. Wish my mom would have kept hers. I love the idea of framing them and placing them on a special part of the house. Thanks for sharing about the Polo House party, I didn't know. I would like to wish you my dear lady the most wonderful and happiest New Year 2012! Love,
