Postcards...does anyone send them any more? I think the last one I sent, or received, must have been in the '70s. It was so much fun receiving a postcard from a friend who was on vacation.
I have a collection of old postcards, brochures and ticket stubs that I get out around this time of year...sort of a trip down memory lane...
...I like to set them out on a tray in the family room, and maybe add a couple of shells or stones from the beach.
A lot of the cards are really old, and were sent to my grandmother by friends and family, who loved to travel.
One of my favorites is this one showing ladies in their "bathing costumes"...actually, the lady on the right is my great aunt, Mattie. Can you imagine swimming in those outfits? Not only are they wearing hats, but stockings. I'll bet that was a whole lotta fun.
Here's a brochure from the time Hubby and I went to Hawaii...way back in the late '60s.
The perfect outfits to wear in Hawaii...a plaid sport coat for him, and a linen dress and gloves for her...can you say..."HOT"?
Moving down to Florida...the card with the swimming pool reminds me of the movie, Where the Boys Are. Do y'all remember that one? Gosh, I'm telling my age...LOL
Here I am in my swim suit, having the time of my life in Florida...just kidding, it's not me.
I hope y'all have great Summer vacation memories.
I'm taking a short blog break, and sending you greetings from Atlanta, Georgia.

Babs, this is a neat idea! The only postcards we still get are from my mother-in-law, who travels internationally, frequently. She's really great about sending them.
I love postcards Babs. You have a beautiful collection. Those swim togs are something else!

I love the ladies in their swim wear! And I remember "Where the Boys Are" too. :0)
Post cards like handwritten letters are "things of the past" I'm afraid. It's a shame really. You have a sweet collection.
Babs, I still send post cards. I love to get post cards, so I figure I should send them when I travel. ;-) I love your idea of saving these pieces of history and keeping them in a bowl for all to enjoy. And yes, I remember "Where the Boys Are" as well as a trip to Hawaii the summer of 1970 ~ Don Ho and Tiny Bubbles. Fun memories, Babs. Aloha! ~ sarah
How fun, Babs! I love old postcards, too. My fav...the bathing costumes! Yikes! Have a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie
When you look at modern postcards in a store, they are just tacky, then you see old ones and they have charm. That's what age does for ya. OHHh! does that mean I am charming now?
Great postcards. Great memories.
Cute! I have to admit I haven't bought postcards in a long time. I used to send them out while on the road when we had our motorhome. I saved a bunch that were made of copper that I got out west! This post reminded me of that!
What a great little display that made..how smart! Yes when I was a kid I loved getting or sending postcards.
It does seem that sending post cards has become a lost tradition since the cyber age has taken over. I think they're fun to collect though.
Babs,
Nice collection of postcards, dear friend! Two years ago, I tried to send postcards from our favorite vacation spot. It was the end of their tourist season...not a postcard to be purchased anywhere! Must be a sign of the times!!! EnJOY your break...
Fondly,
Pat
I love the retro look of the old postcards, and yes, some of them really make me laugh! Poor ladies in their gloves and stockings! You have a great selection to display, Babs!
Have a wonderful time in Georgia!
XO,
Jane
I love old postcards...especially the holiday ones!!!
Have a wonderful time!
It has been AGES since I sent a postcard!!! I need to go someplace interesting first!!! :-) I don't think anyone would be particularly impressed if they got a postcard from dreary, dusty old Pittsburg, KS where we go for Ramon to work every couple of weeks! :-)
I actually am on of the few who still sends postcards. Mostly to my elderly friends and family and young children who ALWAYS love to get mail.
Your collection is wonderful.
I have a few old postcards that were my Grandma's. I think just purchased as a souvenir and never sent. They are fun!
