We got up at 5am yesterday, to have a yard sale at our house...I'd rather go to yard sales, than have them, but we had so many "treasures" we had to have a clear out.
We kept watching the weather earlier in the week, and finally decided to have it on Friday. Then, Tuesday, we noticed a sign at the end of our street indicating the the roads department was coming to pave our street on Wednesday and any cars parked along the street would be towed.
Ok, no problem, that won't bother the yard sale. Well, Wednesday came and went, and no road crew. They were still working in the next subdivision. So, I called the county road dept. and asked about it...A nice man called and said I could go ahead and have the yard sale, that they wouldn't get to our street till Monday; and, they took down the sign.
Before I lose y'all with this story, let me show you a couple of photos I managed to get before we were overrun with yard salers...
...extra plants from the garden...
...some old things...
...probably some things you might recognize from earlier posts...
...you can see by the thermometer, at 7am..the temperature was pretty nice...and yep, that's a potty pot on the right...one I "inherited".
Now, back to the story. Our first customer arrived at 7:15, and by 8am, we had cars parking all along both sides of the street. Things were going great!
By lunchtime, we had really made a huge dent in things. Gone were the chest of drawers and cedar chest, garden tutor, weed wacker, boxes of old books, tools, a piece of exercise equipment, a big ol' rug, and tons of other miscellaneous stuff.
I made a couple of sandwiches; and we sat under the crape myrtles for lunch.
About 1:30, a road paving truck stopped. I walked to the end of the drive way to see if they were just checking things out.
Oh, no! They wondered if it would be a problem if they started on our street in a couple of hours...around 3 or 3:30. The lady worker said she couldn't get in touch with the scheduler to say when they would be finished with the other subdivision, but she'd come back, and let me know before they started on our street. O-kay!
Lunch over, yard sale traffic picked up again. Then, a little after 3 o'clock...you guessed it...the whole road crew shows up and starts laying asphalt! Finally, by 3:30, we gave up and Hubby took down the yard sale signs. I was hot and tired, and actually happy to call it a day.
We had a hugely successful yard sale, and met lots of new friends. All in all, it was a great day. I'm happy...and hoping this is the last yard sale we ever have.
Hugs, and have a great weekend,
Babs

Babs,
I agree with you...two years ago, we had our last garage sale. I've never regreted that decision! Now I take things to our local Thrift Shop and Goodwill Store! Looks as if you had some really nice items, greatly displayed and I'm sure reasonably priced! Meeting new neighbors is always a plus! Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!
Fondly,
Pat
Babs, I've never taken n the task of a yard sale. I take the easy way out and drop off the things at the thrift store. ;-) Looks like you had some good things. I probably would have been a buyer if I lived near by.
I stopped by an estate sale on Friday. Came home with a couple of pieces of French faience. ~ Sarah
Yep, yard sales are a lot of work! Probably why I've never had one! Glad yours was successful even though shortened:@)
Yes, you gotta love doing yard sales. I'm not one of them. But if I had come by yours I would have grabbed those leaf plates for sure! I'm glad that it was a success, even with the time being shortened with the road crew.
So glad that you had a god time! You had fantastic sale stuff and Im not surprised it was busy! :)
Hugs,
Oh my goodness Babs, that sounds like how things go here. We do live in the same state after all. I am glad you had a good sale. I do not like having a sale and would much rather being going to them which is what we did today. xoxo, olive
What a great looking yard sale! I like the white terrarium. I think I have accumulated treasures much faster since I started my blog!
Looks like you had a lot of items that I would've bought!! Sounds like yours was a success.
Babs~ You have such good stuff! I've only had one yard sale years ago and it was a neighborhood one...lots of work! I'd rather shop at yours and take my cast offs to GW :)
I had a sale about a month ago, and did really well. I held it in the basement, had fans going, and it wasn't bad at all. I got rid of LOTS of stuff. I admit, if I'd come to yours, I would have bought some treasures, especially that little stool with the woven bottom, and the lantern! Beautiful things!
Glad to hear that you had a successful yard sale despite the hot temps and potential road crew intrusion! I usually don't have a sale past 2:00 anyway. I notice a huge drop off after 12 anyway. I think the die hard shoppers get there very early. Have you ever noticed that? All your biggest sales usually occur early? After that, you get stragglers just looking for a deal. I hate to do yard sales in my area. It attracts people that are looking for a reduction on something that is ALREADY marked super low anyway. People want something for nothing at yard sales, I think! I just donate stuff to Goodwill and sell my good stuff at a consignment store.
I saw those trucks on your street. Glad you got your sale in. Sound like you did good.
They are tuff to do, we have one every August at my sister's and it's so much work but we have been doing it for close to 30 years so it sort of a family tradition:) I stopped at one yesterday and and bought two holiday things for $4.00 and in good condition.
I think you had a great one would have loved to have stopped and shopped!
I love yard sales, "one womam's junk is another woman's treasure"l I would loved to have been there.
Oh wish I had known- might have made a little trip! We are thinking of having one about Oct.- when it cools down. I hate having one though I like to make a little change. Angela
Glad your yardsale was a success. No wonder. Great things! If I lived near you I would have come too!!!
Babs,
Hello,
Looks like you had a good sale.
Early morning is the best for having to be out with everything.
It's too hot for me though.
As if having a yard sale wasn't enough of a challenge! Great to have you be a part of Seasonal Sundays.

Hi Babs! So glad you had a good garage sale before your road closed down! Those boogers! ;) I see lots of things I would have loved to have taken off your hands.
We need to have a garage sale but it's too hot!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh Babs, I would have probably bought you out the first hour. Except for the potty. Don't have a need for that I think.
Government work and workers. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Sounds like you live in DC! LOL
Glad the sale was a success. Now you can go shopping. Yeh!
xo Ginger
Isn't it a good feeling when it's over?
It's hard to fire yourself yp to have a yard sale, but once it gets going, isn't it fun!
