Here's a family favorite I've made for years.
It's quick, easy and only three ingredients.
You'll need: one package of smoked sausage...
...three or four apples...I use four, if the apples are small, and about three or four Tablespoons of butter. I use Gala apples, but any "eating" apple will be good.
Here's how to make it:
...peel, and slice the apples.
Saute the slices in butter. I start with a couple of tablespoons and add more if needed.
When the apple slices are tender, remove them from the pan and set them aside in a bowl.
Next, cut the sausage in pieces and brown in the same skillet you sauteed the apples...only one pan to clean...yay.
When the sausage is brown, return the apples to the pan and cook a minute or two longer, just to warm it all together.
And, you're done!
A friend passed gave this "recipe" to me back in the 1970s when our son was young.
The original recipe called for hot dogs instead of smoked sausage. After the hot dogs and apples were cooked, two or three tablespoons of maple syrup was drizzled over them.
That's really a hit with kids, too.
Normally, I'd serve it with a salad, but we had leftover zucchini and cheesy rice, so that's what we had.
Hope y'all like the sausage and apples...or hot dogs and apples with maple syrup.

ReplyDeleteYuMMy!!!
I love using Gala Apples for cooking, also, dear friend!!!
This is very similar to a dish we cook while at the condo
during our Annual Trout Fishing Vacation!!! Simply titled, "Poor Man's Food"!
I use boiled potatoes and green beans with the sausage.
I'm saving this post as reference for 2016's Vacation Recipes!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat
P.S. Great minds!!! We're having this for dinner tonight!!!
