After a trip to the dentist for new crown and a hefty dental bill, I felt guilty about going shopping, so I decided to use some things around the house...again.
The trayscape started out differently. You know how it is when you change things around and end up with something totally different from what you began with?
I started with the gray/green fuzzy succulent thinking I'd do a gray/silver theme, but I saw my old ruler, and the books tied with string made me think of old school days.
I'm thinking in sepia tones for an old effect.
Does anyone remember Blue Horse composition books?
We always had them for school, and the Coca Cola Company gave free rulers to school children in the 1940s and 50s.
On the front of the ruler it says, "A Good Rule...Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
I think it's still a good rule.
On the back was "Compliments of The Coca Cola Bottling Company." This one was one I had in school, and the Blue Horse composition book is the kind I used for years.
This Blue Horse belonged to my grandmother...not when she was in school, of course. Her handwriting is still in it with genealogy notes.
The old wooden shoe form reminds me of walking to school and home again.
The candle reminds me of studying and "burning the midnight oil". I know, I'm stretching it, but it was fun thinking about my old school days.
The plant doesn't remind me of anything about school. I just like to have live plants in the house and move them around a lot.
Oh, an update on the Disc plate hanger...
It's still hanging!
I put a basket and pillow under it the first few days in case it fell...but it's been a couple of weeks now and still holding. So, thumbs up for the Disc plate hanger.
Hope y'all have a great weekend.
Thanks for stopping by. I always enjoy your visits.
Babs
First of all, Babs...I love your coffee table! And your trya has a great theme going! The ruler is awesome and I love the stack of letters. I wish I didn't have children around to keep me from using bits and pieces like this. And I love the plate on your wall, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend and that your tooth is feeling okay.
XO,
Jane
Cute vignette and love that green couch. I love the plate discs and have used quite a few and never thought they would fall off. Mine have been on over a year.
ReplyDeleteBabs, the vignette is very nostalgic. I wish I still had one or two of those rulers from my youth. The tray is a great piece, and the mix of different textures is charming. Beautiful coffee table! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteBabs,
ReplyDeleteAdore your trayscape! I had Big Chief tablets! HA! The message on the ruler is amazing...I noticed it in the photo before I read your description! Thank you for sharing more photos of your home, as well...lovely!
Fondly,
Pat
I am with Kim...LOVE the green sofa!!
ReplyDeletePretty vignette...love it in sepia!
What a great tablescape with memories of old school days. I find myself moving things around all the time on my coffee table. I, too, love your green sofa.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great weekend!
Enjoyed your post. It was real cute and I love the notebook and ruler.
ReplyDeleteHi Babs, I feel your pain....I had to get a crown a couple of weeks ago...bye bye new sofa! Oh, do I remember Blue Horse! Great memories on your post today! Linda
ReplyDeleteBabs! What on earth??!!??!! That's what you get for eating healthy food! ;-) You gotta stick with the unhealthy junk! Your trayscape is great! I especially like ruler!
ReplyDeleteHi Babs! Oh, I love your sweet vignette you've set up! Love it that you still have your school ruler! Everything looks wonderful. I agree with the others - your sofa is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie and thanks for popping in to see me,
shelia ;)
Lovely vignette, Babs! I remember Blue Horse composition books! How fun that you have your ruler! I still have my big eraser from jr. high! lol Happy weekend!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, HUGE bummer about your tooth. I hate it when that happens. It seems once I passed 50 what didn't start to bag, sag, or drag, broke off. Anyway, I do love this table and your tablescape. That ruler is fantastic and while I don't remember those particular composition books, I really love it and the way you put everything together so artistically.
ReplyDeleteLooks great Babs!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen blue horse binders or tablets. I am liking that! I also love the "golden rule"-r too. That is sweet.
I am so sorry about your tooth though. Nothing worse than that and it is never inexpensive to fix a dental emergency....ugh. I feel for ya!
xx
A
Sweet vignette!
Sorry about your tooth. I did however enjoy the vignette and photos, you had some fun doing this post.
ReplyDeleteBabs, Do I ever remember the blue horse notebooks. I haven't thought of that in years. Love the ruler. I con't remember getting the Coke ruler. I am sure I did cause I grew up in Atlanta. Yeh, Coke!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful tray scape. It is really lovely on your coffee table. Thanks for the memories. They really warm the heart.
Glad you were able to save the tooth. I had a similar thing take place recently but lost mine. Oral surgery is terribly expensive as well. Unbelievable.
Hugs, Ginger
