The Empty Cloche

I was so excited when  I found this cloche last week.

It's fairly large, and since my closets are crammed full, I put it under the plant stand till I could think of something to do with it.

The top of the handle has a neat little sprig design molded in it.  Of course it's green, my favorite color.

Actually, I quite liked it sitting under the plant stand, but I thought..."I can't join Marty's Fall Cloche Party with an empty cloche"...

and being green, it wasn't exactly screaming "Fall". 

I stared at the cloche for three days trying to think of what to put under it.

Everything I tried was either too wide or too tall...or turned some weird color under the green glass. 

I dragged it upstairs and downstairs. I think it was in every room in the house, except the bathrooms.

Finally, I took it back to the kitchen, and there was this poor little squirrel gathering acorns for Winter. With his paws full and a pitiful look on his face, he scampered under the cloche...

...and there he stayed.

Latest Find

I know this is probably an unusual thing to drag home, but it caught my eye; mainly because of the monogram.
Plus, you don't see them that much any more.

In the old days, every home had at least one, usually in the bedroom.
Can you guess what I found at the antique mall?

The lady at the antique mall thought the monogram might be a military insignia or from a hospital.  I don't have a clue...how about you?

The handle is very simple and sturdy. Have you guessed what it is?

Yep! A chamber pot!
Now, what do you put in a chamber pot...for display purposes!!!  

After I bought it, I wasn't sure how to display it, or what to fill it with. I guess the pine cones will work until I can think of something else.

It's getting close to Halloween, and I usually don't decorate much. Our grands live out of state, and we rarely get any trick or treaters...
...but, just on the outside chance...maybe I should get a little candy...just in case.

Well now, there's another use for the pot. Gosh...those Kit Kats look yummy.

Orange ones? I'll try just one...munch...munch...

Hedge Apple Fever

I couldn't stand it any longer. I just had to find some.
I'd seen them when Kim and I went to the Scott's Antique Market. 
Then, Alison @ The Polohouse showed them in her post.

Since the Hedge apples I saw at Scott's weren't very pretty, I didn't buy any and decided to look for some online.

They arrived Saturday, and I've had so much fun trying them in different places around the house.

First, I put them on my transferware platter on the chest in the entry, and added a flower arrangement.




Then I tried them in a chicken wire basket, but changed my mind. The wire seemed too sharp; and I was afraid it would cut the fruit.

Then, I put one in a copper bowl with some other natural elements.
 

Then, I tried them in a soup tureen on the kitchen table.
Hmmm, I think I need a bigger tureen.




You can see why they are sometimes called green brain or brain fruit.

And last, thinking ahead to Marty's Cloche Party on Nov. 1st, I put one under a cloche.

What do you think?  Have I caught Hedge Apple fever?

What Happened to Fall?

OMGosh! What happened to Fall?
It's windy and been in the 40s all day.
The weather man's predicting a frost advisory for tonight, and I'm freezing.
This is NOT typical Georgia weather for this time of year.

A cup of hot tea would be the perfect thing to warm up.

The tea tray is ready in the living room...

...in front of the fire.
I also put a piece of tartan on the table...

...to go along with the thistles on the tea set.

Here's a tartan throw I recently found at an antique mall.
It's so soft, and I love the colors.

 I love to have candles around the house, too.

 The candle holder was made by a local artist and has a different Celtic design on each side. Nandina berries and leaves  look so Fallish with the antler.

Ahh...Perfect! Cranberry-orange scones, a couple of magazines I haven't had time to read, and a nice warm cup of tea.

Hey, come on over. I have lots of scones, fresh from the bakery. You didn't think I baked them did ya?

Here's a cup of tea just for you; and would you like a scone?
 I have an extra throw and plenty of magazines, too.

I have mice!  Call the exterminator!

I found these cute mice silhouette templates on Martha Stewart's site.
Wouldn't these be fun to put in your entry way if you're having a party?

This is a thrifty and fun Halloween project. 
 All you need is black construction paper, scissors, and some tape to stick the mice to the wall or stairs. The template is printable on Martha's website.

Actually, because I was in a hurry to do the post, I just printed the templates...the mice print in black, so I just cut them out, and touched up the edges with a black marker.

Oh, no! There's one on the hutch...

...and two more on my laptop!

I opened the door to get more light to photograph in the entry, and someone else was interested in the mice.

Guess I won't have to call the exterminator after all. :)

Saturday Shopping

Saturday was so  much fun. Y'all know Kim from Savvy Southern Style . Well, she invited me to go to Scott's Antique Market with her, and I was thrilled, because Kim is so much fun, and I hadn't been to Scott's in a long time.
We had a great day looking and shopping.

One of the things I wanted to look for was vintage books, and Kim knew the booth with the best prices...$5-$12 each.
Here's what I found.

These books were so nice and so reasonably priced, I wish I could have bought a whole library of them.

The other thing I was looking for was tartan.  I really didn't see a lot, and most that we did see was very expensive.

But, when I saw this, I knew I just have to have it...right colors, right size and best of all...right price. $15.

It's a wool tartan lap robe from Air France...

...just the right size for a table topper or for cuddling under, while watching The Travel Channel.

Ok, I'll stop yakking now, and show you some of the neat things we saw, but didn't buy.

Here's Kim, looking for bargains.  We're both big bargain hunters.  :)

This was one of the most interesting things I saw.
The dress is made from brown paper, and she's wearing what looks like, antique leather shoes.  Her choice of accessories is so unusual...a necklace and a riding crop. Of course, what else?

Autumn Kissed

It seems like it's taking me for-ev-a to get my Fall decorating done. Maybe I'm trying too hard? Maybe I can't find what I'm looking for? I don't even know what I'm looking for.

When I get this way, I remember the KISS method. You know...Keep It Simple Sweetheart?

So, I started with my front steps.

Ok , I know...I need to add fresh pine straw and paint the garden finial, but that's for another day.

Funny thing...the two mums I got at HD looked the same when I bought them. One had flowers open and the other was in bud. They were beside each other and looked like the same flower but...oh, well.
Simple arrangement. Two mums, two pumpkins and an antique market basket made by Hubby's grandfather around 1900. Done!
...Kiss my steps.

On to the kitchen...

...on the island, I put a bunch of faux flowers in the old milk pitcher...

a plate of apples from my neighbor's tree...

 ...and a candle.

Kiss my kitchen...I'm on a roll.

Last stop...the deck.
Since the deck is very visable from the kitchen, I always like something interesting on the coffee table...

...one old grapevine wreath, one urn, one new pumpkin and... Kiss my deck. I'm done! 
And you thought I was going to say "Kiss my grits".
