It's what used to be called a "country kitchen"...small kitchen and small eating area (breakfast room) next to it.
But, I found a vintage toy cart at the antique mall the other day, and decided to put it on the kitchen island.
It's all metal, except for the tongue. The little tree and the burlap scrap came with it.
I had seen it the week before and didn't get it, but when I went back, it was waiting for me. I couldn't just leave it there, could I? :)
I used an old wooden spool for a candle stick, and made a rosemary wreath to go around the base of the candle. I switched out the plates on the wall to more Christmasy ones.
Then, I was moving things around and...
I'm such a klutz!....I set my Christmas mug on the corner of the breakfast table...
...it fell off, hit the floor and...broke!!!...Oh! Grinch!!
After I mopped up the mess, I started thinking about the
Amaryllis I bought Saturday.
Here's the Amaryllis...poor thing. Isn't it pitiful? Hopefully, it'll straighten up, and I can put it in a prettier pot.
This is one of those Amaryllis sold at Wally World, so I have no idea how it will do. Hopefully, it will be red, since that's what the box said.
Well, here are a couple of miscellaneous photos from around the house...
Clementines from the grocery store--they call them Cuties, but aren't they just seedless Tangerines? I don't know. They taste and look like Tangerines. I'm so confused.
A really vintage stocking. It was mine when I was little. I added the jute bow to cover a place where the hanging loop ripped away. Guess it was worn out from getting all those
On the back of the front door, I did a quick remake of my Thanksgiving basket, using a tartan scarf from the thrift store and an almost vintage Merry Christmas sign.
That's all I have for now, but I'm working on one or two other vignettes.
I know y'all must be finished with your decorating and in the kitchen right now, baking loads of Christmas cookies. Right?
I haven't even thought of baking cookies yet. They'd probably all be eaten by Christmas anyway, if I made them now. Hubby never met a cookie he didn't like.
So what's going on at your house?
I have the same plates you have in the plate rack. Cute little scottie dogs. I have had good luck with the flowers from Wally World. Didn't get one this year. I don't know why it is drooped over like that.
ReplyDeleteMy mother has put thin wooden stakes in her pots of Amaryllis and gently tie (don't know what she used for ties) the plant up in a couple of places, until it gets stronger. I laughed when I read about the orange in the toe of your stocking... we got oranges, too.

I've been busy baking cookies this week and still doing little bits of decorating here and there, all in the spirit of Christmas! Happy Holidays to you!
Your sweet little cart is perfect for a small vignette. It looks wonderful. Sorry about your Christmas mug. Santa might be able to replace it for you.
ReplyDeleteI like your little red cart. I would have picked it up too. I also think I have to start looking for some tartan scarves. I like the look.
ReplyDeleteOh it's a good thing you went back and got that little wagon. It's super sweet. Bummer about the mug, though :( You're place is looking beautiful and you're WAY ahead of me. I've got a lot of decorating and cleaning to do this weekend!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Scottie plates and the tartan neck scarf in the arrangement on your door is the perfect touch. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteBabs, Babs, Babs....did you learn nothing from my Thanksgiving disaster???????? We can no longer be trusted around breakable items! We will have to trade in all our beautiful china for melamine and paper! :-) I'm so sorry about your pretty cup. That realization that it's going down and you can't save it is the worst. Ugh! :-( On the flip side...the little wheelbarros is so cute! The burlap really adds something to it, too. I'll keep good thoughts for your amaryllis. I've never tried to nurture one, so it'll be interesting to see how yours fares. As for the lumps of coal, hold your head proud! It's not who we were, but who we are now! Whoops, wait a minute...I'm STILL getting coal in my stocking! :-( Have a great day, Babs!
ReplyDeleteThe wooden spool makes a great candle stick.
ReplyDeleteAll of your Christmas decorations look so pretty! I buy those "cuties" too. We love them! It's so nice that you still have your stocking from when you were a child. It looks like what people try to go out and buy new today! I love the basket on the door with the scarf, greenery and antlers. I think that's my favorite! I'm going to start baking cookies tomorrow. I got my wrapping done today. Taking little baby steps! Ha!
ReplyDeleteLove the basket on the door with the tartan scarf and the fact that you will have your childhood Christmas stocking!
ReplyDeleteI have my amaryllis growing pretty good now! I have it sitting in the window and I turn it when it gets growing too far one way. Give yours a try in a window and let it start to straighten itself up. It won't take too long!
ReplyDeleteSorry you knocked off your cup! I'm the klutz in this family! I have yelled at myself so many times for it! That toy cart is adorable! What a neat find! Your scottie plates on the wall are adorable!
I'm the original cookie monster and my husband is a close second! I haven't made any yet, I need to do that too! Need to wrap gifts, etc.....
Love your little cart.I broke two red cups a the same time,I was so mad at myself. Thanks for sharing your cute post! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteBabs,
ReplyDeleteSo~o~o sorry about the crashing of your cup! Your little wagon is adorable...and YES!!! it was waiting for you! Christmas cookie baking will begin here this week! Ah~h~h the smells of freshly baked cookies just says "Home for Christmas"!
