Weekend Chores

Today was a gorgeous day, and we decided to do some projects in the yard, since it's supposed to rain for the next few days.
Hubby was under the deck working on my potting bench...

...while I played with the plants.

I brought my Christmas cactus down from the house to re-pot it. I'm going to leave it outside for the summer and, hopefully, we'll get loads of blooms at Christmas.

This morning, we planted two more tomato plants. One is Heatmaster and the other is Cherokee Purple. We've never planted the Cherokee Purple before, so I'm excited to see how it produces.
Here's what they look like:

                                                                              source

After I watered and potted a few more plants, I took a few photos of our Vitex trees. They are in full bloom now and gorgeous.

They look a bit like Lilacs, and the bees just love them.

Another name for the Vitex is the Chaste Tree. We have three of them because they were on the clearance rack at the garden center several years ago...so you know I bought all three. :)

My potting bench is almost finished. It just needs pieces on the sides, like the one in the front.

I "decorated" it a bit for you to see. Oops...there's my bag of potting mix and mosquito repellent.
I looking for a vintage container large enough to hold a big bag of potting mix. Also, I'd love to find a vintage watering can...mostly for looks. When one of those big beauties gets full of water, it weighs a ton. I had a small one a long time ago, and got rid of it...silly me.
Hope y'all are having a great Sunday.

Hugs,
Babs

Let's see what's happening at The Tablescaper for Seasonal Sundays.

Babs,
Your trees in the garden are gorgeous! WoW! your potting bench is fabulous! I'm sure you'll enjoy it year ~ round! Working in the garden a tad bit myself today; however, for me, it's usually admiring "Mr.Ed's" labors. He is enjoying the lawn work now that he is retired! Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!
Fondly,
Pat

Soooo loving your potting bench. I have been after The Hubbs to get busy building me one too. We have the perfect space and wall outside. Maybe I will tackle this project myself this Summer. Thanks for your inspiration. That large container to the left of the bench looks like it would be the perfect container for your soil. Thanks for sharing....

I love the tree...amazing color. Your potting bench is to die for. I don't have any place to put one but I'd love to have one. My dad has one of those vintage watering cans that was my grandmother's. It's just sitting in his garage. Think he would miss it if it jumped in my car? Have a lovely Sunday and take it easy!

Love those trees that look like lilacs! That may be the closest thing that we can have to them. Your garden bench area is wonderful! You're so organized.

Babs, your potting bench is fabulous! Mine will be a simple affair and I haven't worked on it yet, but I did use it yesterday to repot some flowers and loved it. Luckily the hose is right next to it so I can just wash it off. Those purple trees of yours are amazing!! I have three old watering cans but just as you said....they are heavy when filled with water. I do use them on the front porch because there's not a hose nearby. Hope you are having a fabulous weekend. xo

Hi Babs~ I love your Chaste tree~ the blooms are wonderful and it might satisfy my desire for lilacs that we can't grow here! After several years my husband decided to plant only Cherokee Purple tomatoes~ they have the BEST flavor!

I am most certain we have nothing like them here in Illinois. The color is just wonderful!

I love that tree and I'm headed outside to see if what I call my butterfly bush is actually that. I have always just called it a butterfly bush.

And I LOVE your potting bench! I want one in the biggest way. I feel like the only soul in blog land without one and I'm kind of pouty about it.

The chaste tree is lovely and reminds me of a butterfly bush a little bit. Your potting bench is just splendid.

Babs, sorry I missed this post on Sunday. Love the idea of a potting bench filled with an assortment of treasures. I agree about the watering cans. Would love a vintage piece, but too heavy when filled with water.

Babs, I am sooooo late getting by. I love your bench and the potting soil just keeps it real. We are human and we live in our homes. I love all your galvanized buckets. It really turned out well.
I keep my Christmas cactus on the porch all year. I know your's will thrive out there. You will get a gazillion blooms. I am going to loo for those Chaste trees. That are awesome.
Love to you, Ginger
