Cantaloupe Ice Pops

Hi, everyone!
Yesterday, I was at the grocery store, and saw cantaloupe and honeydew ice pops! They sounded sooo good, plus they were on sale, so I grabbed a package!

When I got home, I looked at the ingredients list...to see the calorie count... :)
and realized there was NO cantaloupe, or honeydew in them!...only sugar, water and artificial flavor, color, etc. Can you tell, I don't buy ice pops too often?

So, I decided to make my own cantaloupe pops...with real cantaloupe...besides, I had one in the fridge I needed to use.

Here's the recipe I found online from Taste of Home.

Your reminders to "eat your fruit" will finally stick, once kids take a lick of these mmm-melony snacks. A perfect use for over-ripe cantaloupe, these pops make a light dessert or healthy between-meal refresher.

Ingredients

Directions

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the first five ingredients; cover and process until smooth. Pour 1/4 cup into each cup or mold; insert Popsicle sticks. Freeze until firm. Yield: 1 dozen.

Nutritional Analysis:One ice pop equals 36 calories, trace fat (trace saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 5 mg sodium, 9 g carbohydrate, trace fiber, trace protein. Diabetic Exchanges: 1/2 fruit.

The fresh mint and lemon juice made them really refreshing.
See the little bits of mint in the pop?
The only ingredient I didn't add was the lemon zest.
I forgot that. Duh!

~ TIPS ~
I bought an inexpensive mold set, because that was all the store had; and I was in a hurry to make the pops.
Before I make them again, I'm buying a better quality ice pop mold...the individual kind, NOT the kind with all the molds stuck together. It was difficult to remove just one at a time, since they were all stuck together.
Or, I'll use little cups and Popsicle sticks.
Also, I'll change the sugar to 1/3 cup if the cantaloupe isn't really ripe and sweet.

These are going to be my new Summer treat. YUM!

I hope you try them. I'd love to know what you think.
Hugs,
Babs

I love cantaloupe! I've never heard of making them into a frozen treat before. Looks and sounds good. I have some fresh cantaloupe cut up in the fridge right now. I eat it with my breakfast. I let my 12 yr old try some, but he quickly spit it out. Arghh! He hates everything. LOL! I wonder if he would like your version better.

These sound so fresh and refreshing! I can't eat sugar but I think I could get away with leaving it out if the melon is really ripe! I wish I had one right now! I just got back from a walk in the park!

Oh these look and sound SO refreshing! I really love the idea of adding the mint -- I have TONS growing in my garden and am always looking for ways to use it, even in small amounts like here. Mint just adds so much to summertime meals and treats!

I think I'll give them a try, so many luscious fruity flavors to try!
Thanks for the recipe.

I have everything I need to make these except the molds. I'm going out to get some molds in the morning!

I just decided to buy some pop molds myself! Just like you, I bought the cheap ones, and you are right that it's a pain to get them out.

I'm not quite sure where to find good ones. I guess I need to google it.

I love your recipe! I'm going to pin this because I want to try it. The little roadside stand down the street had wonderful cantaloupe last year for a great price. I'm hoping for more of the same this year.

I love popsicles! I hope you don’t mind that I’ve reposted this at my gallery, “The Blog Post Office”. It’s like a reverse linky. Please let me know if you are not happy with that, I can always remove it for you. But I’m really hoping you won‘t mind as all the posts will be a gallery of wonderful items.

Thank you so much, Victoria Lavender

This looks like a great thing to keep in the freezer for a refreshing summer treat.

You are one adventurous chick..making you OWN cold pops!!! Way to go, Babs! I don't blame you! I hate it when something is advertised as being this or that, and then you realize you've been had! I'm sure your homemade ones are FAR superior to those store-bought things!!!!!!! They look great, too! Thanks for the tip on using individual molds!

What a shame those you bought didn't have any real fruit in them but good for you to come up with your own! I love this idea and can't wait to try some. I think my little grandson will love these. Maybe I'll try them with watermelon too!
