Hi, everyone.
I hope you're having a great weekend and looking forward to the 4th.
We don't normally do a lot of decorating for Independence Day.
Of course, we always fly the flag by the mail box, and on the deck, and...put smaller ones in flower pots.
But today, I did a little "library style" vignette on the living room bookcase.
Red, white and blue...books, and vintage things, too.
A 1907 postcard celebrating the Battle of Trenton...and flag pins~
Red roses, an antique cast iron bookend depicting the ancestral home of George Washington...although that's in England.
Another cast iron bookend with a patriotic banner, and eagle.
When we think of Independence Day, we often think of our Founding Fathers. But here's a book about our Founding Mothers, by Cokie Roberts.
I just bought it the other day, and I can't wait to start reading it.
The middle book is 1776 by David McCullough, and the other is Revolutionary Management, John Adams on Leadership, by Alan Axelrod, PhD.
That's all I've managed to decorate so far, but I know y'all are busy crafting, tablescaping and making yummy recipes.
So, I'm on my way to visit y'all to see your fabulous decorating ideas.
Hugs,
Babs

What a neat idea to use the history of the 4th of July to inspire your decorations!
that postcard and the pins are just wonderful!
That's a lovely vignette! Those flag pins are beautiful. Please share what you think of that book. I've been wanting to read. It, too.
This arrangement is just fantastic, Babs! the books and bookends make it so sophisticated and interesting as opposed to the "fun" vignettes we see. I just love it...it's very inspiring!
XO,
Jane
Hi Babs, I am doing none of the above but your patriotic decor is filled with red, white and blue charm. xo, olive
A very cool vignette, Babs. Some great flag pins and I love the bookend.
Good Afternoon Babs, There is so much to look at, books to pick up and read, beautiful flag pins. There is so much wonderful colour to enjoy and you have topped it off with beautiful roses. So gorgeous.
Have a wonderful day,
Best Wishes
Daphne
Babs, I've been lagging behind on getting anything patriotic out here. My stack of books is all so far. I need to put away my laptop and get busy so I'll have something to share this year. Tomorrow is Alison's Favorites on the First - Patriotic Theme. You are ready!
Love seeing this vignette. The flag pins remind me to pull mine out and use them for something. ~ Sarah
Hey there, Babs. I haven't done anything in the way of 4th of July decorating this year due to the whole thing with Daddy, but I'm thinking I might at least do something on the front porch. We always fly the American flag on the front of the house, and I've considered putting one on the deck, too, like you have. I like the library-style vignette you've created in honor of the holiday. You have some really neat stuff! I especially like the "Founding Mothers" book!!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great & safe 4th!
You've really used some interesting elements to decorate for the fourth. I love to use books in my decor and I love so many of these books. I haven't read the one by Cokie R. I'll look for that one! Happy holiday!
Babs,
I adore your Patriotic vignette, dear friend!!!
I was the acting librarian for 11 years in our small town in South East Kansas. . .and I would have loved to have you do this in our Library!!!
Petite flags are in the porch basket and a Patriotic vignette on the Entry Hall from Flag Day 'til the Fourth of July!!!
Have a happy & safe holiday!!!
Fondly,
Pat
love your collection of memorabilia. This time of year, it's so inspiring to see people decorate with the American spirit. I so enjoyed your post.
Hi Babs..I really enjoyed reading your blog...it's a very pretty vignette you've got there!
FANTASTIC, Babs!
I love your front entry grouping. You did a marvelous job! Dying to hear if you like Cokie's book.
Please let me know. May have to go get a copy!
Thanks so much for linking up, sweet friend.

I like what you created! You've given this a great theme and just the right amount of patriotic accents! We do about the same as you with putting our flag out and I stick some flags in my planters too! I hope you have a great 4th!
I'm back for a little more red, white, and blue! '-)
This is a great vignette, Babs.
What a nice vignette, Babs. I'm reading David McCullough's The Greater Journey. What a wonderful book!

I think your patriotic book display is wonderful. You are correct, we always think of our founding fathers, but what of the women standing side by side with those men? Lovely job on the entire display! I am a new follower after finding your blog on What's It Wednesday. I would love to have you visit me at Still Woods Farmhouse when you have the opportunity.
Happy 4th of July and Blessings from Still Woods
Babs, love what you pulled together! I collect Americana books and love thumbing through them this time of year. Your pins and postcard are fabulous! I have only 1 vintage postcard for the 4th, but I do have a collection of old pins. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
