I guess it wasn't bugging me very much, since I put it off for 13 years. Well...
This is the after pic.
...now, I know this doesn't look too exciting, but back in 2000, we did some remodeling to the downstairs, and in addition, we had this area done, too. Here's the story.
When we bought the house, this area where the chest sits, was a closet, that stuck out into the entry.
There was a closet wall where the stair railing is now. So, when the closet came out, a stair railing went in.
See the little stained strip at the base of the spindles?
Sorry, I don't have a better pic. I took a couple the other day, and somehow, I lost them. Duh!
Well, that little strip started bugging me...not at first. I was so happy to have the closet gone, that I didn't notice the strip.
But, in the last year or so, it's been bugging me...a lot!
So, I got out some spackle, patched the little gaps, and painted the strip with Kilz and trim paint...left over from 2000. :)
Can you imagine this whole area as a closet?
But, now the trim on the stairs looks, to me, more like it should. Aren't you impressed? :)
Now, that I've finished this little project, and bored you to tears...let me show you what I found at GW today.
A big coffee table book..."The Art of the Old South"...Painting, Sculpture, Architecture and the Products of Craftsmen.
It has wonderful pictures, and hopefully, it won't take as long to read it as it took to paint the stair railing.
Hugs,
Babs

Looks great, Babs! I hate it when something bugs me like that. I have quarter round all over the house that needs to be painted white (13 years also), but have I done it? No! Maybe one day, but I'm not holding my breath. Have a great weekend!
Yes, I really do think it looks better, that is such a beautiful area and the chest and mirror are stunning. Love your new coffee table book too. Hugs, Marty
That looks great, Babs! And I love your new coffee table book! Great find!
Babs, it makes sense to have taken that closet out, and it looks great. Love the book find. Let us know what's in it.
I think it looks great. I totally understand about little things suddenly bugging you ~ it happens to me quite a bit around the house and then I just have to do something about it. lol
it's all in the details! And it looks great now. I do things like that all the time and wonder what kept me from it so long! I guess some things just don't bug me unless they are blatantly obvious! lol!
The book looks great! Believe it or not, I put books on my coffee table with good intentions of reading them and don't! ;-D
XO,
Jane
Good Morning Babs, Well, I have to say you had me laughing this morning, I looked at the photographs, and I could not see what was upsetting you. I looked again and still could not see, but on the third time of looking the penny dropped and I could see the problem. Oh dear, I am not very observant am I.
I do understand when something is not quite right, it niggles until the source of the problem is fixed.
I love your new coffee table book, it looks like an interesting read.
Have a lovely weekend Babs.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Looks Good, Babs, and the book is a great fine.
Isn't it funny how a simple change can make all the difference? I love how this turned out!
You were able to use 13-year-old paint??!??!!! Wow! I didn't think it lasted that long! I just called around the other day about where to safely dispose of old paint in the KC area, and I had planned to dump some that is as recent as 2010. Maybe I need to reconsider!
The little change made a tremendous difference!!!! Congratulations! Better late than never! :-) Enjoy your weekend!
Yes!! That did make a big difference!! Nice job!
It looks beautiful, Babs!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Not only did I not think it was boring or whatever word you used, I was inspired by the difference such a small change made. Plus, I hate our stairway. The carpet wraps around the edges. I am going to show the whole thing to my husband as a reasonably priced alternative to new treads all the way up. I love the way yours looks.
Looks beautiful! You did a great job.
The little things sometimes bother us the most, but your eye for detail is amazing.
Hugs,
Patti
I think we all have those projects we procrastinate on..looks wonderful and love the chest...I have two similar ones in my bedroom...Love the book!..great find!...Have a great weekend!!!
It does look more finished, Babs. I have been wanting our driveway re-sealed since at least 2000 and it finally got done this year!
Well, it doesn't matter how long it took to get done as long as it got done eventually, right? I like it much better painted. It would've bugged me too. Your coffee table book looks like it will be an interesting read!
Your painted trim makes a big difference Babs! I was looking at our porch door that I walk out 10 times a day thinking to myself I need to break out paint to do some touch up :) Love your book~ you have great luck at GW!
Babs,
I understand, dear friend!
Perhaps you've had other projects that were more pressing at the moment and you could push this one to the back 'burner' for a while! I have a small piece of missing trim near the dining table that will be on "Mr. Ed's" August "To Do" list!!!
Gorgeous coffee table reading material!
Your last sentence made me laugh out loud!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Looks wonderful! :)
That is so funny! I am glad you did it, looks good! Thanks for joining TTF this week.
