Another Urn, Pinecone and Doormat

I haven't done much around the house this week. Mostly, I've been trying to get organized, and, of course, I did some shopping .
Here are a couple of things I bought.

Heaven knows, I didn't need another urn...

...but, I saw this one at GW. It had ratty plants and pears in it, but it was brass, and under $3....so now, I have another urn.

I thought it would be an easy clean up...just pull out the ratty stuff and give it a good cleaning.
Well, the inside was filled with something that looked like expanding insulating foam. Not quite what I'd expected; and, it took me about 15 min. to dig it out.

After I got the foam dug out, I gave it a bath. What ever it was originally painted with started coming off. Yuuk!  I got all that red stuff all over my hands. After I scrubbed my hands, I spray painted the urn with hammered copper and hammered black paint, to seal in the red stuff.

I filled it with a faux fall spray, dried hydrangeas, a few dried oak leaves and some pinecones.

Speaking of pine cones, I found the twin to my Thymes pinecone votive lantern at GW today...$2.92, and it still had the tag on it.
Sure beats the full price I paid for the one I got at a gift shop last year.
And, I can always use two of anything.

New doormat...I had to get a quick pic of it before my neat-nick hubby swept all the leaves away.
I'm probably silly, but I love fallen leaves. Seeing them blow around and cover the stoop and walkway always says "Fall" to me.

Fall is definitely here in Georgia.

I have a thing for urns, too! I just pulled out the [dying] flowering plants from the pair at the bottom of my steps and am trying to decide what to do with them. So glad to "find" your blog:)

Good Morning Babs, That was a labour of love, you turned an ugly duckling into a swan and now the urn looks fabulous. I do like your Thymes pinecones..... are they a metal? they are gorgeous and how lucky to find a second one at such a good price. We also have fallen leaves everywhere at the moment.... and my hubby is the same, the moment they fall to the ground, then out comes the brush and they are swept away.
Have a lovely weekend Babs.
Best Wishes
Daphne

I LOOOVE urns and am always looking for them too. I love those pinecone lanterns!!! Gorgeous! That is funny cause we lived in the woods so I was a fanatic about sweeping, blowing anf raking the leaves. We STILL are doing it, unfortunately, because the old house still hasn't sold:(:( So, we go back there almost weekly to blow and rake, UGH!!!

I have a nice urn I need to put back in use! Your's turned out great- what a nice find! Love the arrangement you created in it. The pine cone votives are cute. Another lucky find! We have tons of leaves here. Hubby has done 3 yard cleanups and now there are more down but it's been raining/snowing and it's hard to do now!

GREAT finds!!!!!
I am so glad to know another leaf fan! In the fall I love to go out under our water elm, and just let the leaves swirl all around me. It makes me feel like (if I weren't old and discombobulated) I could dance...or maybe they make me feel like I AM dancing!! It is a lovely feeling either way!
Blessings to you and have a great weekend!

I love all of your new finds. You know how to find a bargain too! That urn is beautiful now. I never would've guessed it came the way you found it. Love your new doormat too. I'm a bit of a neat nick too, so probably would've swept away the leaves before taking a picture. But, I have to admit, that they look good amongst your pumpkin. They really do show that Fall is here! Our yard is FULL of leaves. I need my husband to get them up!

The Holiday Cottage Magazine has a stunning inspirational urn in a Christmas vignette!!! It makes me swoon!!!

Hi Babs, what a steal of a deal on that urn! Love the shape and NO you could not have passed it up for that wonderful price. The arrangement looks great. Just thought I would mention that you probably didn't get visitors from SYC. Don't know why, but when I clicked on the link it said, "page doesn't exit". I searched and found it. I noticed your latest post. Glad you'll be linking your Johnson Bros. dishes to SYC. Love them. I found a set of 4 at a thrift a while back. Thinking they might be the same. I will check your post out better later. Still trying to get through a few more SYC links.
hugs,
Jann

Love the urn and the beautiful red chest it is on! Can you tell me why you used the two different colors of hammered paint? I would like to do that on a lamp. Thanks!

Love the urn. Really love the beautiful red chest it is on! Can you please tell me why you used the two different colors of spray paint? What was the effect you wanted? I can't see that in the pictures. Thanks!

Wanda, I used the hammered copper first and it was too "coppery". I want to fill the urn with Christmas ornaments and I thought the darker color would go better. I just did a light over spray of the hammered black. It just looks black in the photo. Probably hammered brown would have been good, but I didn't have any. :)
