It reminded me of a post I did November 2, 2011, and I thought I'd share it again.
Looking at the platter always makes me think of an old fashioned Thanksgiving in simpler times.
It's by Johnson Brothers, and the pattern is Historic America. The platter design is called Home for Thanksgiving, and depicts a farm scene with guests arriving.
I never noticed before, and had to laugh...all of you up North, who perhaps just had snow-covered pumpkins, will see that the farm family had the same surprise.
The platter is quite large, and has so much detail...
...if you look closely, you can see a child ice skating...
...someone is doing chores in the barn...
..cows are headed to the barn, and chickens and birds are finding a meal at the feeding trough...
...a team of oxen is pulling a sled with logs. You can see their breath in the cold air...
...and the turkey is still strutting around the barn yard.
Hmmm...I wonder when Thanksgiving dinner is going to be served?
...surely the guests must be staying for several days.
Thanks for letting me share my favorite Thanksgiving turkey platter.
Do you have a favorite dish with a Thanksgiving scene on it...or, a family piece you always use?
Today, Nov. 12, 2013...the temperature has been dropping since this afternoon, and we have a slight chance of snow predicted.
It's beginning to feel like Thanksgiving.
Hugs, and stay warm.

A very lovely platter. I love transferware.
Your platter is beautiful! I love Johnson Brothers and this one looks like it would work nicely with the Friendly Village pattern too:@)
I love the Johnson Bros. transfer ware. I have a large creamy white platter with a turkey embossed on it that I bought when we were first married. I want to buy the Spode dishes but so far I haven't. Most of our Thanksgivings are spent with family 250 miles away so I don't get much chance to use it.
Wonderful Thanksgiving platter, love all the detail but like you said, I wonder when the dinner will be? The quests have arrived but the turkey is still strutting and the oxen and man are still working. How funny.
Have a great day,
Gina
I love the scene on your platter! I never realized all the details they add to it. Your arrangement with it on the mantel looks so pretty and very appropriate for the season!
Good Afternoon Babs, What a beautiful platter and with so much detail. I think the turkey is strutting around very happily, because he does not know his fate.... what is the saying "Live one day at a time".
I do not have such a beautiful platter to serve my Christmas turkey on.... I have a plain white one, which is the right size for our turkey and one I have used for years. Now you have made me think, maybe I should look around and find a more decorative platter for our Christmas turkey.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Babs, your Thanksgiving platter makes me smile. I'm sitting here by a cozy fire, Sadie snuggled in on the chair with me. Your platter fits right in to the kind of day I'm having. '-)
Thanks for sharing. Stay warm……..Sarah
I would have shared that platter too as it is gorgeous!!! …Stay warm…cold here, but warming up a little later this week.
I love the detail on the platter! It does remind one of a Thanksgiving in a simpler time!
Beautiful! Your platter definitely says Thanksgiving~ Looks like an old Currier and Ives pattern~ Lynn @ Turnips 2 Tangerines
Oh, I just love this! When I see this and others like it, I can't help but imagine myself living in that scene, what the cozy little house looks like inside, etc. The era depicted is one of my favorite times...wish I would have lived back in those days. Thanks for sharing your lovely platter and making my imagination go wild!
It's so beautiful with all of the details. What a treasure! I don't really have anything special like that but we always make a big meal even for the two of us. Sweet hugs!

Beautiful platter. I would love to have some of that pattern. I've seen it at my antique mall and would have to buy it one piece at a time! It's a treasure for sure. Happy Weekend Babs ~ Ann
