What Does the Cricket Say?

I was trying to remember when brass cricket boxes were popular in decorating...the 60s? 70s?  I had a small one...way back when.

When I saw this one at GW right after Christmas, I snapped it up.

It even came with a Christmas arrangement in it, and it was only $1.57.

The shape is really different from most of the ones I remember...and it's quite a bit larger..about 8 inches across.

I packed away the Christmas decoration, and filled the box with a few seashells. It's the dead of winter, but I still love seashells.

Are brass cricket boxes coming back? I wonder.
Looking at mine also made me wonder...
"What does the cricket say"?  Chirp-churp-churp-a-chirp churp.  :)

Now you'll have "What Does the Fox Say", running around in your head. LOL

70s and 80s had many brass decorative pieces that we had all around the house. So many things you can do with this - FUN!! Happy New Years!

Babs, this makes me wonder what ever happened to the cricket box I once had. You found a beauty here, and I love sea shells out year round. Bits of nature never go out of season.

I do remember those! Sixties, I think! And they were EVERYWHERE! Haven't seen one in a long time -- not even in TS!

Hey Babs, This was posted on a photo I had pinned on Pinterest of your Upstairs Downstairs: Pumpkins, or No Pumpkins on the Mantel post...thought I would share so you could check this out..Amy Camano • 6 hours ago
To Babs Richman, owner of featured blog - Couldn't find a way to contact you on your blog, but thought you'd want to know there is an animated soft porn ad for some PC game called "League of Angels" appearing at the top of this blog post that plays over and over. Your blog looks beautiful otherwise! When I clicked on the picture and your blog it took me to your blog and I saw not such ad. Here is the link, I did not want to delete it until you could check it out. Please let me know if i can help in any way, Love you blog, Penny

Penny, OMGosh! I have no idea how that would have happened, unless it's something to do with Adsense ads.
I'll check to see if I can find out where it's coming from. Maybe there's a way I can block it. Thanks for letting me know. I just realized that my blog address doesn't come up when I clicked on it. I guess readers who don't follow Google+ don't see my email address. Also, my blog thumbnails aren't updating either. I'll see if I can put my email address where non-google+ readers can see it. Thanks again for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

Hi Babs, I never really knew what those little boxes were! Wow, so pretty with the arrangements. I will have to keep an eye out now, maybe there will be one at our Goodwill!

I remember cricket boxes. If it were selling now on One Kings Lane vintage sales it would sale for fifty or sixty dollars. You got a steal!

Yes, I'm going to beat you up for putting that tune back into my head. I JUST got it out a couple of days ago!!! :-)

I have never heard of a cricket box. I will have to Google it to find out what they were used for. Not catching crickets, I hope? What would you do with it once you catch it? They make SUCH an annoying sound!

Great buy! Gook lookin' out in the thrift stores!

I remember those boxes being popular but I never realized they were called cricket boxes. What a steal.

Great to have you celebrate the New Year with Seasonal Sundays.

That was a great price on that brass box! Brass is back but in a muted form. The shiny brass seems to be out of favor but I still have it in my home. Maybe that ad sense is causing your blog problems? Try removing it for a while to see if it clears up.

I remember seeing those and even having one many years ago. I think they're a classic kind of like blue and white Chinese pottery. By the way, your blog hasn't been updating on my blog roll for weeks! I'll need to check your blog often. My sister's doesn't always either. Crazy!

I had one of those, too. I wonder what happened to it? Yours looks so pretty filled with shells. A great find for less than 2.00. What luck!!!

I'd have filled it with shells too - there's just something about them that I love, any time of year.
