Thinking Coastal in the Foyer

I'm almost always thinking coastal. Not that I live on the coast, but the beauty of the ocean and coastal marshes just speaks to me.

So, as soon as the Easter decorations came down, I put out a few things you might have seen before...

...including my recent $8 yard sale purchase...what else... an oil painting of an ocean scene.

These prints of old sailing ships have been above the bench for a couple of years. I love their soft colors...grey, blue, and sand.
I just realized there isn't a pic of the bench with the ship prints, Duh but, you get the idea. :)  You can see a little bit of the bench with the striped pillow in the first and last pic.

The lilacs are still blooming, so I kept a vase of those, and added a monogrammed candle that had been on the coffee table. I found the little shell last summer at the beach.

An old favorite sweetgrass basket is back on the chest for holding keys or sunglasses.
It's sunny today, and in the 80s, with a nice breeze. Oh, yeah! I'm thinking coastal. How 'bout you?

Thanks for stopping by.

Babs, I think I'll follow your lead and put one of my Savannah sweet grass baskets on the entry table.
I like to put out our Nantucket Lightship baskets for a bit of coastal here. It helps me dream of sandy beaches and sea breezes.

Your entry looks great. Love the ocean scenes, they're wonderful. I wouldn't have been able to pass them up either if I saw them for sale.

I think that a coastal vibe does well anywhere. Most of us love the water! Here on the west coast there are lots of opportunities for borrowing from nature and the seaside, and I love it!

Babs...you have such a beautiful way of decorating around your classic pieces and I think coastal has a way of fitting in everywhere...it's very different from "nautical" which I think is best left near the sea. I love the picture of the ships. Just perfect. You have a great touch and sense of style...always a treat to visit and see your changes! :)

Jane

I like you coastal touches. I love the fresh cut lilacs even better! I didn't know we could grow those here in GA. I will have to find a bush and plant it pronto!

Definitely a warm weather vignette. I am jealous of your boquet of lilacs! Still chilly here!

I love to decorate with a nod to the coast in the summertime, too. It's so peaceful. I love what you've done. It makes me want to get cracking on my own stuff.

I've been thinking coastal the last few days with temps in the upper 80s, but all that's about to change as the temperatures go back to normal along with thunderstorms tomorrow and throughout the weekend. I'm OK with it still being in the 70s, though. I can always wait to see 80s and 90s with all the humidity!!!

I like your new touches! The lilacs look beautiful, and there's no doubt they smell wonderful! There is something about ships...I don't quite know what it is. They're just fascinating. I saw a GIANT one at Home Goods the other day. It stood at least 4-ft tall. You'd have to have a house with really tall ceilings to display it! I have a miniature version that I'll have to make do with! I did buy a couple of seashell canvas prints, though, from the clearance aisle. All ready for summer!

When summer comes, I tend to break out the "coastal decor" ... I guess it satisfies us for the need to be near a beach....love your new painting!...and those lilacs are gorgeous...wish we could grow them here!
