A Thrift Store Find and Ice Cream

Hey Y'all!
The weekend is here, and I stopped by the thrift store near my house this morning. As usual, not much new on the decor and book aisles.
So, I wandered down the pots and pans aisle where they have the miscellaneous kitchen utensils and stainless flatware. You know the one I mean.
I rarely ever rummage through all that, but for some reason, I looked, and guess what I saw...

...an antique coin silver serving spoon!
It's by R&W Wilson, Philadelphia 1825-1846, nine inches long and not a ding in it.
It was just laying on top of some kitchen utensils, winking at me.
Actually, this is what it looked like when I got it.
Can you believe it was only 99 cents!

Right now, you're probably wondering why I'm so excited about finding a silver spoon. Well, I LOVE LOVE old silver, especially spoons, and I have no idea why.

After I ran a few errands, I brought it home and gave it a quick polish...

...then, I remembered the ice cream I'd gotten at the store. Hmmm...

It is a serving spoon, after all, so I "served" my self a bite...a BIG bite.

Mmmmm.
Did you know...ice cream tastes sooo much better eaten from an antique silver spoon?  :)

Have a great weekend, stay cool, and treat yourself to a silver spoonful of ice cream.

Babs, way to go! What a lucky find, my friend. I love old silver, and coin silver has a unique appeal. I found a couple of coin silver spoons in Maine a few summers ago. They were a fantastic price, but not 99¢. Need to check out that ice cream. It looks refreshing.

Hi Babs - I love antique flatware too, and I don't know why either. :)

Great find! And I love the way you served ice cream -- "I only had ONE SPOONFUL!" I haven't tried the orange swirl -- thanks for alerting us to its existence!

How decadent is that!! I love the spoon, I have several family pieces like it. Don't you wonder who treasured it? I love orange and vanilla...reminds me of the old "pop up's" when I was little. Enjoy!

That's a great find! Maybe you were supposed to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth. LOL! That might explain your love of spoons. That ice-cream looks yummy too. Perfect on these hot days we've been having lately.

YuMMy!!!
I must look for that Orange swirl Ice Cream, dear friend!!! So~o~o refreshing!!!
Very elegant served on your great find silver spoon!
Great minds, you know the saying???
It was silver polishing day here on the Prairie and I polished five silver spoons!
Wonder if "Mr. Ed" will notice five spoonfuls of ice cream missing from the container??? (wink! wink!)
Fondly,
Pat

What a find. So glad you found it and love it. Someone else would have melted it and sold the silver.

That's a great find! And very pretty with your ice cream!

Why, it was almost as if you HAD to get the ice cream, right? I mean, what's the point of a wonderful thrifty find, if you don't use it?

Just decided that I'm going to go thrifty spoon hunting on my Thrifty Thursday adventure this week. ('Cause there is some truffle flavored deliciousness at Baskin Robbins with my name written all over it. )

Yum, Babs, your ice cream reminds me of a creamsicle. My grandmother used to buy those when she knew we were coming to visit.

Your silver spoon is really pretty. I know this is a dumb question, but why is it called an antique coin spoon? I've never heard of those. :)

Visiting from Inspire Me Tuesday; thanks for sharing and have a great day!
