Ice Storm 2015

Hi, Everyone~
We've finally finished with the ice storm, and temps are back to normal.
We're so thankful that we were only without power for 18 hours...several areas were out much longer. The good thing was that, in our area, roads had been warm enough, that they didn't freeze and people could get out to check on things.

We didn't have any major damage...just broken tree limbs, and the top of a pine tree took out our cable lines.
No, internet, tv or phone, for four days, was a huge annoyance.
I really missed "visiting" all of you. :(

Here are some pics of our frozen yard~

Nandina bush and Crepe Myrtles~

View from our deck~ broken tree in the center is my favorite dogwood tree. :(
The magnolia to it's left is bent almost in half, and the big shrub (Florida Anise) to the right, is normally about 10 ft tall. I think both of those will be OK.

Leyland Cypress and Crepe Myrtles~

There were some beautiful views...when the sun finally came out~

The pinkish-red area of the trees is ice reflecting the sunset. Unfortunately, the pics don't show how beautiful it really was.

So pretty..."fire and ice".

After the ice storm, temps dropped to 12 degrees for two nights.
Thursday, I checked on the early Lenten roses. They were still in bud, and frozen solid.
I thought they were lost, but this morning, I found they had thawed, and two blossoms were open, so I had to bring them in.

I know so many of you up north are dealing with much worse snow and ice, and I hope you get warm weather...soon.
Sending warm thoughts your way, and I hope you have a great week.
xo Babs

The ice does so much damage, especially when things are already in bud. I'm glad you are alright!

Loosing the power is the worst. It affects so much of our lives. Too bad your favorite tree got damaged but a trim up might save it. Growing up in southern Michigan I saw a lot of ice storms and one time we lost power for a week- that was bad Love the pictures you took especially with the beautiful sky!

Wow...certainly gives new meaning to fire and Ice!...Sorry you had to go through such an enormous inconvenience....Ice is such a bad thing, but when you see it on the trees it is truly beautiful....glad your power is back and hopefully this will be the first and last of the ice storms for you this winter!

I'm glad that the weather has warmed up a bit and melted everything. I hear that we might get snow tomorrow and Wednesday now. The cold temps on Thursday morning were brutal weren't they? Our thermometer said 9 degrees!

Wow, Babs, you guys really got hit! We had an ice storm last night; but, it was nothing compared to this! This looks like the one we had in December 2013. Hopefully, most of your trees and plants will bounce back just fine! Beautiful photos!

Babs,
Fire and ice photograph is exquisite, dear friend.
While beautiful to view, ice can be so destructive within the gardens, especially to trees!!!
Brace yourself, dear friend. . .our Weather Channel states your area is in for storms with rain this week.
Thinking of you. . .stay safe!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Hi Babs, so glad you guys got through the ice storm somewhat unscathed! That photo of the sunlight reflecting off the ice is amazing! It was terribly cold here last week but we didn't have ice. We did have frozen pipes and one burst. Luckily, it wasn't under the house but in the pump house where it was much more easily accessible. Right now we have a light dusting of snow on the ground. So ready for winter to be over, aren't you?

Sweet Warm to you Babs!
We didn't have the ice in Cobb, but did finally get some snow!!! Sorry to hear you were without electricity. That is usually challenging and can be difficult! Your pictures are great!! And your sunset scenes look like a fire is blazing - beautiful!! Hopefully spring is around the corner!!
