Saturday Reality in the Yard

Happy Weekend, everyone!
It's time to relax and enjoy the garden...Right!
Normally, I try to show y'all pretty photos around the yard, but this morning was reality check time.

Our old bench saw better days several years ago. We really need to break it down and be done with it, but it sits w-a-y back behind the shed, so it's out of sight and out of mind.  Hubby keeps saying he's going to repair it, but I'm not holding my breath.

See the crane thing? They're building more houses behind us. At least we have big trees to block the view.

When I was back there, I caught a glimpse of two of our ferals.  They had just had breakfast. Newbie is grooming himself, and Georgie is....oh, sorry Georgie.  Didn't mean to catch you at an awkward moment.

Back near the house where the hose is, I found a little frog, or is it a toad?

I gave the old gray fox a good scrubbing. I still have to put him back in the garden, but he's concrete and h-e-a-v-y.  Now, where do I want to put him?
Gotta add that to Hubby's honey dew list.

Something weird appeared overnight in the veggie garden...

...which is running over with weeds. The tomato plants are over five feet tall, so we've added extra stakes. Maybe I should pinch them back. Hmmm...gotta Google that.

I must admit, the squash plants are looking pretty good, now that we're having warmer weather and a LOT of rain. I even saw two baby squash.

This is on the north side of the house, and the ivy and Virginia creeper have taken over.  At some point, Hubby will have to get in there and chop it back, or I'll call the landscape guys.
It's one of those areas that requires boots...and someone who isn't afraid of critters...and it isn't me. :)

Here's one last pic.
I'd been looking for some green and white Caladiums, and finally found a pot at the grocery store the other day.
They were jam-packed in the pot, so I re-potted them in a big black wash pot, and added them to the pine island. I haven't decided if I'll put them in the ground, or just leave them in the pot, til time to take them up in the Fall.

Thanks for stopping by and seeing the reality of my yard and garden.
If the rain will stop for a few days, I may finish some much needed  chores.
Have a great weekend,
Hugs,
Babs

Babs,
Whew!!!
That's a huge garden, dear friend!!!
Ours are much smaller here. . .less weeding to be done!
One thing I have discovered about Gardening(now that I do a large portion of weeding!), much like housework...once you finish one area...it's time to move to the next!!!
Have a great weekend!!!
Fondly,
Pat

Just came in from a little garden time. All gardens have these realities. '-) I try to spend at least an hour each morning just trying to keep up, but as the heat of summer is now upon us I doubt I keep it up. Need to feed everything too. Always something to do in a garden. Thanks for taking us around yours. That's always a treat. Need to find a foxy loxy for our garden. He is adorable.

yep, I have that same kind of "reality"! I'll hang on to lawn furniture until it disintegrates! great post, I had to laugh over the kitties! good thing our cats can't take OUR photos and post them. LOL!

We all have these realities, Babs! Like your bench, I have a 3 legged white iron chair that I disguise with some potted plants. Right now there are none so it looks like it's ready for the dumpster!

The kitties are cute, I never heard of feral cats until I started blogging! And I know what you mean about ivy, I have it all over my house but it's the ground ivy that makes me want to put on boots! And BTW, that's a toad.

XO,
Jane

I'm so glad to see houses being built again! We have a lot of things around here that need repair, too.

I can relate to some of your "realities". We have a few things that need to be removed or cleaned or secured. I wouldn't know what to do if everything was done on our "to do" list. I love the layout of your vegetable garden! It's actually pretty to look at. Mine is just in a rectangular raised box.

We have two garden benches that had to have the wood slats replaced. Makes you want all metal so you don't have to worry about it. Your garden looks great. I've never seen tomato plants that tall! Caladiums are so pretty and add a nice pop of color! It's good to know there is new construction going on again. I've even seen it here in Michigan and our state was really devastated in the real estate market.

Tomato and squash plants look great. Is that sawdust in the garden? Not sure about the bench. Kind of charming in its chippy disrepair!

There's always so much to do as we get our gardens and yards ready for summer. Your cat may have been a bit embarrassed with your cute shot.

If I did a reality check on my back yard right now, you would see so much that is growing out of control. All that rain that I've prayed for for about five years now has come (and come and come and come) and the expression "growing like a weed" has taken on a whole new meaning. THIS would have been the year to plant vegetables, but of course... I didn't.

I love that fox, btw!

Thanks for the reality check Babs. That makes me feel so much better.

I love to recycle or fix things instead of throwing them away. Our porch swing, that we've had for 20 years or so, broke a couple weeks ago and we had to take it down, now it's sitting on saw horses behind the well house. Wonder how long it'll take hubby to fix it.(or NOT) I think the gray fox looks great where he sits.
