Floating Hellebores

Hellebores, also known as Lenten Roses, are so pretty.
I used to always put them in a little vase on my secretary, but in the vase, their heads hang down, and it's hard to see their "faces".

So now, I cut the stems short, and float them in a pretty dish.

Each bloom looks a little different...

...some have freckles...

...and some don't, but have a blush in the center or on the edges of the petals.
Mine are mostly pink or white, but they come in lots of colors.

There! It feels just like Spring...I love Hellebores!

Do you grow them? I'd love to hear what colors you have and how you display them.

Wow, not only do I not grow them, but I'd never heard of them before! They're just beautiful. My mom always cut roses and set them afloat in a bowl like that. It was so pretty. This is a good reminder for me to do the same...when at long last we get flowers. Thanks for sharing yours with us today! :-)

Babs, these are lovely. I don't grow any, but I do think they grow here. I love them floating in that pretty green compote.

These are beautiful photos. I had a purple one ones, which I had purchased from a store. Do they grow from bulbs?

I hope you come and visit me on my blog as well. I can be found at http://www.pet-portraits-by-nc.com/blog

Babs,
Exquisite blossoms, dear friend!!!
I wasn't familiar with this flower.
I'll be checking, but doubt they would survive our frigid Winters and arid Summer climate.
Thank you for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat

So pretty, Babs! I am not sure, if I have seen this variety previously. If I have, I certainly did not know the name - I am not much of a gardener, I am afraid! Thanks for sharing these.

Hi Babs, Two things, Love the compote and the blossoms. The blossoms are so pretty and they are perfect in that pretty green dish. A lovely breath of spring. Nothing but the Japanese Magnolia is blooming here. I mean nothing. I have been looking for my hyacinths but can't find them.
Thanks for the breath of spring.

Oh Babs, these are just BEAUTIFUL!! My mom loves Lenten Roses and has been encouraging me to plant some. I really need to do that this year. Yours look especially pretty floating in that lovely dish! Yes, it does look just like Spring. :)

Thanks for sharing -- have a great day!

I've never grown those before. I love how pretty they look floating in water though.

If I've ever seen them before, I didn't know what they were called. I love them and really love the way they look floating.

Babs, I love Hellebores and have them in my shade garden. I just cut back all of the old greenery and they are just starting to pop up. Won't be long now. I have pink, purple, and a green one. The purple one really hangs low and it 's hard to see the blooms. I will be taking a tip from you and bring some in to float. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

Those flowers are lovely...I will look for some and hope they grow in our crazy heat in summer!
I just have to comment....I have been reading your blog for a couple of years....just a few times a month. I have always enjoyed the read and appreciate all of your hard work!
Last weekend, I decided to go back and read from the beginning!! You are wonderful with words, and with just sporadic reading, I never realized what a cool sense of humor you have. Needless to say I have enjoy "reading backward"...you are great!!
Again my thanks,
J

I am so jealous that you have hellebores blooming already! I do grow them and have the white and dark pink varieties but won't see them until after Easter here. With the deep freeze level in the ground and cold winter it may even be later this year.

What a beautiful way to display them!
