Sunday in the Garden 6.2.13

Hi, y'all. Are you having a great weekend?
Here's what's been happening in our garden.

The impatiens we planted last week in the pine island, have about doubled in size.

They're in front of three boxwoods we transplanted...they had outgrown their pots on the deck.
The huge hosta at the end was transplanted at the same time. It's almost 4 ft. in diameter...it had really had outgrown it's pot.

We finally got a bird bath for the island, and planted around it with little odds and ends of hostas from the back yard.
Most of them were not happy where they were, and had been declining the last few years. Hopefully, they'll like the damper area around the bird bath better.

Here's a different angle. We have one very late azalea blooming, and you can see the impatiens beyond.

Autumn ferns and hostas, as you see, we need to mulch. This side of the island is in shade, and the other side is in sun from about noon on...hot and dry and a challenge to plant. It's a work in progress, and not worthy of even taking a photo at this point.
Hopefully, I'll be able to show you that later, once the daylilies we transplanted look a little better.

Other areas in the garden ~

An old urn holds another hosta near the driveway. Lots of wild stuff growing here.

Another urn near the walk way...

A dry shade area in the back yard. This is where the hosta were sulking.  I don't blame them...plenty of shade, but D-R-Y!
This is in the "back forty", and it's really hard to drag a hose way out there...it could be I'm just lazy.

Well, time for a break and a BIG glass of iced tea. Come on by any time! We always have iced tea...and lots of weeding that needs to be done. :)
Happy Sunday, y'all.
Hugs,
Babs

I think your garden looks lovely, Babs. That shade of pink is my favorite for impatiens. I love your white hydrangea, autumn ferns, and purple petunias. Are those coral bells I see between the bird bath and the azalea? I used to have some of those in our garden in Greensboro -- they're wonderful.

I hope you're having a great weekend!

Good Evening Babs, My word, how lucky to plant Impatiens and then to see them double in a week.... they are obviously in the perfect place. It is interesting looking at your garden as everything you have shown us, which grows in your warm climate, also grows here in England.
I have Hostas, Box, Hydrangeas and Petunias growing in my garden aswell.
Your garden is so pretty, it is always lovely to visit you.
Best wishes
Daphne

Your gardens are beautiful, Babs. We have that same square birdbath on one of our berms. I love it.

Your Oak Leaf Hydrangea is gorgeous. Ours is budding. I should check it in the morning. Perhaps the buds are beginning to bloom.

Beautiful garden! I love your ferns and hostas, the one in the planter looks so pretty. I've many hostas in urns and planters...they do so well in them and come back every year!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...
Blessings,
Cindy

Babs your gardens are lovely and your plants are really thriving. I love impatiens and hostas. I love having an island to garden in. I think your boxwoods are going to be happy there........I love the little church birdhouse tucked under the blooms and tall pines.
Have a lovely week Babs.

Such a beautiful yard, Babs!
I must get out to mine and get it into shape. I have not even hosed down the patio yet. Have not had a warm day when I was not working that I could do so. This weekend has been chilly in the 50s and gray with rain!
Indoor projects for me!

:)
Hope you had a great one.

What a great space! and I loved that Oakleaf hydrangea spot. But I am with you on the dragging hose part...that and weeding are not my favorite either! lol

I think the pine island area will fill out nicely. I love the urn with the purple and yellow annuals. I could never grow hostas in pots here. The roots would freeze in the winter. It's too bad because I like the look.

Your Hosta's are sooo pretty. I have none but when I get those tree's cleaned out beneath them..I am getting some. You have really made me determined. LOVE the bird bath. It's different and old looking. Is this a nice time of year, or what?! :)

Oh Babs, what a gorgeous garden, I think I'd spend so much time outdoors in lovely weather! I specially love, love your hostas, what a lovely color they have! You also took some pretty shots of it all. Thanks for dropping by and you made me laugh about my liquor cabinet..so funny too. I thought I clear it up, people might think I just drink all day and open a can of Ital. tomatoes for dinner on top of some pasta and voila, caz I'm just too drunk to cook, LOL!!!

Ferns and hostas are always favorite for me. Impatients seems to do so well in the shade and have such gorgeous colors. Yard work is always tiring, you deserve a glass of tea.

Although the new garden that is developing might not be photo~worthy now, please take before photos to share with us at a later date!!! Helps those of us to know, if we are patient, the rewards of all those hours of labor are splendid, indeed!!!

You have a lovely garden Babs, and it makes me miss mine :(. I had hostas that could kick your hostas butt! Seriously, they were around 6' in diameter! And believe it or not, the deer didn't eat them!

Your impatiens are so pretty, and they love their home it seems. I remember planting impatiens one day for hours, and less than a week later they were all gone. The deer had a field day with them. I guess they figured they would give me a pass with the hostas but that's about it.

Thanks for visiting today!

Your yard has so many pretty flowers and plants in bloom right now! I know it is getting harder to get out and work in it right now due to the heat and humidity. It's paying off for you though. Everything looks great!
