Early August Garden

There isn't a lot going on in the garden right now.
Some of the containers are looking a little bedraggled, in spite of the fact that I've pruned and fed them, a second and third time. But...

...we're still getting Zinnias and tomatoes...

...and this week, the figs have started ripening...yum.

The Peppermint Caladiums are still looking good.
They seem to love this spot...

...and I love the patterns on the leaves.

Sometimes, I find little surprises in the garden like this double Zinnia...

...and critters.
Bees, a bald Cardinal...poor thing...a turtle, and one of the feral cats sneaking a peak at me through the leaves.

I'm still trying to find out what this little plant is that appeared by the stepping stones. The flowers are tiny

Thanks so much for stopping by.
I always enjoy your visits, and I'd l-o-v-e to give you some tomatoes and figs to take home.

I would LOVE some figs and tomatoes! Lucky you! Your mystery plant has a bloom like a violet and the plant favors Ajuga. When you find out what it is don't forget to share.

I might try a peppermint caladium next year. I have the white variety in one pot for the second year and it does well there.

Gardening is always a challenge with weather issues but we LOVE it! The bugs have been an issue this year for me. What about YOU?

Your flowers are beautiful...I have not had much time this summer to devote to my flower gardens...so I will admire yours!...great that you are able to enjoy your tomatoes and figs too!..

You're giving away maters and figs? I'll be there in about four hours.

Actually, I wish that I could. I love figs, and no one that I know grows them around here right now. An old favorite teacher of mine used to grow them back in the day and (and dry them on the roof of her farmhouse, I think.)

Do you know what is blooming in my garden? A few herbs and some gerbera daisies. Ambitious, aren't I?

Loved your garden pics, and hope you find out what that flower is.

Everything looks great Babs. I tried to find your mystery plant by looking up native plants for Georgia but didn't spot it. It's cute! I'm still enjoying my outdoor flowers- it's a nice time of year up here!

Your garden looks fabulous Ours is really the worse for wear with all of the super hot temps, so can't wait for fall. I love those figs, how fabulous.

Your tomatoes are going strong like mine right now! We have more than we can eat at the moment. We've been trying to give the extras away. Your flowers are looking pretty. Hard to believe that summer is winding down.

Hi Babs,
That's why I love Zinnias so. Putting on a show here as well! Loved seeing your August blooms and oh so many tomatoes!! I am just about ready to pick my first one. Been awfully slow this year. I usually pick my first one around the 4th of July.

Jann

Hi Babs,

I enjoyed your post! I used to have Zinnias in my garden in Greensboro; they're one of my favorite flowers. They come in so many wonderful colors. Your tomatoes look yummy and so do your figs! Our tomatoes are still on the vine -- not ripe enough to pick yet. We look forward to some good tomato sandwiches, caprese salad, etc.

I planted Caladiums on our front porch this year. I discovered in the past that they do very well there. I just love their shape and color, and they always look rather elegant I think. Yours are very pretty. :)

Hope you have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Denise at Forest Manor

Babs, It's so hot here in Florida that my plants are suffering. Your garden is beautiful and I would love the figs and tomatoes. My MIL makes the best fig preserves.

I'm with you and it comes to zinnias!! I love having fresh cut zinnias around my kitchen!! They last a while and always multi color!! A big WOW!! on your figs. At the beginning of spring - I thought I had lost my fig tree due to the cold winter. It took forever for the leaves to come back. My figs are about the size of my thumb. It'll take a little long for mine to be ready!

Could your little plant be Ice Plant??
Your zinnias are lovely...mine are fainting in the
afternoons :^(..it's hot and dry in Texas! The only thing left in our garden is okra....it likes the heat :^)
Blessings to you,
