Dusty Miller Wreath

Y'all might remember a couple of posts ago, I told you I was drying some Dusty Miller. Click here to see that post.

Making this wreath was trial and error, because even though I've made wreaths before, not many were dried ones. 

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, even with a tiny "miscalculation". 

Here's how I made it.

My cousin, Betty, suggested using a straw wreath and floral pins. 
Thanks, Betty! That worked out much better than hot glue would have. 
I bought a 14 in. straw wreath and two packs of U-shaped floral pins.

I started around the outside edge, overlapping the pieces, and pinning each piece. 

I realized, when I got almost all the way around the outside edge, that I didn't have nearly enough dried DM to finish the whole wreath...story of my life!  
Now you know why I don't do crafts much.

So, I headed back to the garden and cut every last top off the DM plants that were left.
I wasn't about to wait two more weeks for them to dry, so I started pinning them on. I wanted to get it done now! 

Hopefully, the wreath will still look full when it dries. I saved several pieces, just in case some bare spots show.

Note: It's sooo much easier working with the fresh Dusty Miller.
In this pic you can see the edge with dried, and toward the front is the fresh. 
You can hardly tell the difference. I'm just hoping it dries well and doesn't get moldy. I'll let you know if anything weird happens.

So you'll have an idea of how much DM it took...I had 15 plants and it took almost all of the tops for the wreath, but it only took one pack of floral pins. 

After I took the pics, I decided to lay the wreath down to dry. I'm thinking it might droop if it dries while it's hanging. Wish me luck.

Next time...a few more Fall things. I'm gettin' there.
